Guest guest
Hi Junior, We've had discussions, recently, about the benefits of t2's (type 2 diabetics) taking insulin along with their oral medication. You are probably doing the right thing based on the majority of what everybody was saying. I happen to be a t1, having been diagnosed at age 11 over 41 years ago. The 40 units of long lasting insulin sounds like a lot, but I don't know what the insulin is, nor am I well versed enough about those diabetics who take oral medication and insulin. If you need assistance or feed-back concerning food and anything related to maintaining your diabetes, just ask away. Dave Victim of a crime? Know someone who was? http://victimsheart.blogspot.com intro Hi I am Junior Lolley. I live in northwest Florida about 50 miles west of Tallahassee. I have been totally blind since I was 12 years old. My blindness is not connected to diabetes. I found out on June the 4th that I was diabetic. I take metformin 1000 mgs in the morning and another 1000 mgs at night. Plus 40 units of a long lasting insulin. When I learn how to spell it then I can forward that info. I am a 911 communications supervisor with the local sheriffs office. And I am a amateur radio operator. Have a nice day. Junior Lolley kg4itd Liberty County E. C.

Guest guest
Junior, The first thing you need to do is get a meter. That way you can monitor your blood sugars (bg) which is the quintessential task related to managing diabetes. As a t1, I take short acting and long lasting insulin (also Lantus), but I only take 10 units of the Lantus. I'm surprised that you take so much of it. Once you see how your bg's are doing, you can play with the insulin, as well as your meals and snacks. That's the great thing about a meter. While some may think of it as limiting, it is actually much more of a release than anything else. Anyway, you shouldn't have to wait until you can see your doctor in an appointment, but should be able to have the doctor simply send you a prescription for your meter. This can actually be handled by the company who would sell you the meter and testing strips. I'll put some phone numbers below. Be sure your doctor prescribes at least 4 strips per day. Many of us do more testing than that. But, as a t2, you'll probably be fine with 4 times. Here are the phone numbers; Sources for Prodigy meter and strips: Home Care of America at 1- Advanced Diabetic Solutions in Georgia at 1- Unknown: 1- Independent Living Aids is also selling the Prodigy Voice, but I am not sure they are set up to work with Medicare and/or other insurance companies.
