Guest guest
Well the only thing I know about prozac is it's taken for depression. Thats about all I know on it. I have a friend who took Litheum (SP?) which I think is basically the same thing. But then again I could just be totally wrong and boy then I would feel really stupid. But I'll send this out anyway and see what the results are. It's a crapshoot but we'll see what happens. Anyone else on here know more on this than ditzy me?...............LOL Ok I'm done being a dork Carol <~~~~~~~~lacking major sleep but still remembered to feed her baby =) mom to Tiff 1/9/
Guest guest
Prozac is a " new generation " anti-depressant. It is not at all like Lithium. Lithium is a metal and you have to have periodic blood tests to make sure you levels don't go to high, or low. Prozac is much easier to take, has fewer side effects and can be taken while BF or pregnant. Prozac is only about 10yrs old, having been approved by the FDA in the late 80's and let me tell you, it is a Godsend. I suffer from clinical depression (anti-depressants are a must for me) and my OB thinks most of my preg. problems were caused by the anxiety and depression (I made the mistake of going off the prozac) The nice thing about prozac is, you can b/f and it doesn't have the unpleasant side affect of making you devour the entire candy aisle at teh supermarket. (The other anti-depressants can make you do that) Hope this helps Hugs Kristi > >Well the only thing I know about prozac is it's taken for depression. Thats >about all I know on it. Guest guest
I'm on Paxil for depression, and there has been no sign of trouble where my son is concerned. I know Zoloft is also safe to take while bfing. I checked all of this very carefully. I'm not sure about Prozac, but I thought that it was supposed to be used if you couldn't take one of the above for some reason. Guest guest
My aunt is on prozac and there is definitely a difference in her behavior... She acts completely CRAZY now... but she won't admit it's the prozac doing it to her... it is really scary... Lithium is taken for manic depression (highs and lows)... I had an ex-boyfriend who's entire family was on lithium except for him... But as for Prozac I've only heard negative things about it. We went over it in psychology, but I can't remember exactly what negative things were attributed to it. -==- Re: Prozac >From: Looneytnzs@... > >Well the only thing I know about prozac is it's taken for depression. From what I remember from nursing school (not much about these kind of drugs (I work with babies)) is that prozac is an antidepressant and lithium is a mood stabilizer. I think (if I am rembering right) that lithium is used by people with manic depression not just depression. I know where I work that moms on prozac are usually changed to another drug in order to allow them to breastfeed. Hope this helps. a Mom to four
