Guest guest
We replace our balls every year. We have had one pop and the patient was slightly injured. Our Clinical Engineering team instructed us to buy a specific brand. We strictly adhere to the weight limits and label the balls with the replacement date. Has anyone ever had a Swiss ball pop when working with a patient? I havnen't, but when I had a large patient sitting on one last week, all the " what ifs " started going though my mind. Also, do they have a life span? Does anyone have a replacement policy in place? thanks in advance, Nick Marvin PT OCS North Branch, MN ________________________________ This message is intended for the sole use of the addressee, and may contain information that is privileged, confidential and exempt from disclosure under applicable law. Guest guest
Great questions. Some products do supply weight limits, but I have never seen literature on life span. Interesting situation shared at a strength training seminar one of our staff attended recently...big time lawsuit over a fitness center client's 2 broken arms as a result of a " popped " ball while trying to bench press weights and using the ball for a 'bench'!!! (was there another way to do that exercise?) Dan , PT PT Manager Vernon Memorial Hospital Viroqua, WI 54665 dnelson@... Guest guest
Are you using the " old " ones rated at under 300#'s or the newer " anti burst " rated at 600? When the anti burst arrived on the scene I replaced all my balls with the anti burst for safety. You might want to contact the manufacturer for specs. I got mine from Ball Dynamics and they had very good data when I replaced mine several years ago. Guest guest
Wow! I assume your exercise balls either get a tremendous amount of wear and tear or they're of sub-optimal quality. I bought my first top quality European brand of Swiss ball 25 years ago and still have those original balls. Their use is admittedly light and I refrain from having patients do silly and potentially dangerous exercises like the dumbbell bench presses on them. Nevertheless, I'm amazed at their durability and how well they hold air. There's absolutely no detectable oxidation, drying, or weakening of the material. Also, their longevity is enhanced by the top quality protectant I've used on them. It's not cheap compared to most others on the market but does the job well. , PT, OCS Marquette, MI Swiss balls Happy holidays all! Has anyone ever had a Swiss ball pop when working with a patient? Guest guest
We do as many others have stated: Buy the burst-resistant balls with the highest weight capacity, and label with the date and replace yearly. Guest guest
They do get an exceptional amount of use. We get them from Duraball in Australia. We replace them every year as it is required by our Safety Manager.
