I am very distressed today > as my Doctor, through blood tests, has ruled out both normal diabetes > and diabetes insipidus (water diabetes) No, he didn't rule them out. He just decided HE doesn't believe you have them. What test did he do for diabetes insipidus? I haven't even found endocrinology professors who know how to do it right, even though it is described in their textbooks (and is relatively simple). Also, look in my book for how to calculate osmolality from blood chemistry results and go check some old tests to see if you have normal water balance or not. >even though I suffer from > continuous, extreme thirst. If you don't drink, do you keep peeing? Has anyone bothered to check you for allergies? Allergies cause excessive urination and thirst. > Obviously this means many visits to the loo and it's > physically and mentally exhausting. Guest guest
Hi , Thank you for replying to my cry for help! My General Practioner has so far done two blood tests. One an ordinary one and the second I had to provide a urine sample just before the blood was taken. My GP has now arranged to see an endocrinologist on the 22nd of August. He has asked for me to have a 24-hour collection of urine which will be sent of to the Lab the next day. Is this a normal way of testing for diabetes insipidus? I must say, the 16 hour water deprevation test seems very scary to me. I haven't been able to not drink at all, however hard I try. These are the only tests carried out so far. Could you please provide the title of your book or where I may look on the Net? Thank you again for your help Lianne

The textbooks do say to stop it if you pee out more than a liter and a half so as to avoid dangerous levels of dehydration.. .. . . . . >I haven't been able to not drink at all, however hard I try.
