Most will collect deductible up front and bill for coinsurance.

Some of your insurance contracts will specify what you can and cannot

collect.

Keep consistent with all patients.

Subject: Deductibles and coinsurance

I'm new to group so I'm sure this question has been posted before but wanted

to know how most OT/PT private practices handle deductibles and coinsurance.

What do most practices collect at time of service?

It is in your best interest to collect applicable co-pays, co-insurances, and

deductibles at time of service. This is your best chance to collect from

patients and also reduces your costs of trying to obtain the money at a later

time. This is especially true if you have a billing company who may charge you

anywhere from 5-10% of what they collect for you. If you could collect at time

of service, you just saved 5-10%. Some billing companies may still charge you

their collection fee on deductibles that you collect since they will tell you

they still have to bill the insurance company to have the insurance company say

that the patient has not met their deductible. I would recommend you try to

negotiate that fee as you interview billing companies.
