I would suggest reading your state practice act/statutes in addition to your

hospital bylaws. In Florida we have direct access up to 21 days, but after that

time we are required to obtain a practitioner of record and that is defined as a

practitioner licensed pursuant to specific chapters in the Florida statutes

(aka Florida licensed).

outpatient clinic in the state of California. We have inquired with medical

staff and they were unable to answer as to the medical staff by laws. One of the

therapists thinks you can and one says no, can anyone share some law? Thank you

As with many answers to questions posted on list servs, your answer depends on

your state practice act and administrative rules as well as the insurance

companies policies regarding the need for physician orders, who can write them,

and can the physician/NPP who ordered the therapy services be from out of state.

I would recommend you contact the California Physical Therapy Association.

If the Medical Staff by laws and the Medical Licensing Board recognizes

that an MD licensed in another state can practice in your state- then

yes. Many Medical Licensing boards do not recognize multi state

practice
