Anybody using an Alter-G treadmill in clinic? The rep came by today and while it

looks neat, it's kinda expensive. Is it paying for itself? Are you really using

it that much? Overall I'm not a fan of treadmills, as with all new physical

therapy toys, is this a " game changer " ?

Adam,

We use our AlterG Treadmill quite a bit. We have 5 clinicians and I would

say it's in use more than 50% of the time. We should probably even use it

more than what we do. It's obviously great for any condition where the

patient cannot tolerate full weightbearing. We see a fair amount of post op

lower extremity patients and it's great for restoring normal gait and with

progressing back to running. It's also good for our patients with balance

problems. We do use it for some spinal conditions where the patient is

weightbearing sensitive, but it seems more of our spine patients respond

better to the Pneumex unloader we have that unweights from the top instead

of from the bottom like the AlterG. The great thing about the AlterG

compared to other unloaders that I've used is how much more comfortable it

is for the patient vs wearing some harness around your trunk. If you see

much lower extremity or spinal conditions, I can't imagine not having some

type of unweighting device at your disposal. I would get some type of

unweighter if you don't have one. Your patients will benefit from it and

you'll generate more revenue with patients that cannot tolerate full

weightbearing.
