Guest guest
Under SNF Part A stays, providers do not get reimbursed via CPT codes. They are reimbursed via RUG categories. (as per Rick Gawenda PT) Under Part B this is billed by CPT codes. The following scenario occurs with both payers " I am supervising a PTA and in my State of AZ I am responsible for reconciling the bill at the end of each day. The PTA is not performing therex, theracts, gait or any CPT billable code. But the PTA is talking to the resident, assessing if they can tolerate therapy, speaking to the RN and finding out in about 8 or 10 minutes that the pt isn't wanting to perform skilled rx or isn't capable for medical reasons. The PTA is then placing under therex in our billing program, for example 10 minutes of rx, and explaining the refusal or missed visit due to medical issue in the narration. My question is: is that billable time under a RUG? MOre information and why I don't think it is counted. PTA isn't touching pt and assessing vitals, rom, strength, edema, or lung sounds and not even documenting pain on a scale. PTA is Only communicating with other staff and talking to pt.
