We are planning to implement a charge for copying medical records. For the

state of NC, there is a maximum charge for the first 25 pages, another charge

for pages 26-100, etc. Would others please share their policies of how much you

charge (the maximum allowed?) and what entities you charge - attorney offices,

patients?

Thank-you!

Dear ,

We charge the maximal allowable in WA state for medical records which most

commonly is to attorneys. We invoice them first and when payment is

received, the records are copied and sent. We do not charge for clients

however they rarely if ever have requested copies of their entire chart that

would impact costs of man hours and supplies.

Happy Friday!

,

Be careful. NC State law has a provision that if you charge attorneys for

copies, it automatically waives any lien you may have for that clients case. We

only charge attorneys for our clients who are referred by work comp carriers.

Hope this helps!
