Marcy,

Can you recommend any OT's in Akron for PD patient. She saw hand OT at Wellness

center but they could not help her especially with handwriting.

How are things going?

I was waiting to see you on list serve since I couldn't find your email!

Have a great day

Kathy

Hello collegues-

I would like to hear how other facilities are handling performance reviews for

individuals they might supervise who are outside their own particular

discipline. We are a realtively small organization and have a very flat

organizational structure without discipline specific therapy leads or levels.

Simply a therapy supervisor who oversees all the PT, OT and Speech staff at

their particular site.

TJC Standard HR.01.06.01 requires that performance be evaluated by someone with

the clinical training, knowledge, and competence to assess the skills of the

practitioner. In their last visit to us, TJC determined that a PT could not

evaluate the performance of an OT or Speech therapist and visa versa.

We have used a peer review system in the past to collect data/feedback that we

integrate into the performance appraisal. That did not meet TJC's needs. Any

additional suggestions on how to improve on this ?

Thanks very much!

Hi Kathy-

As far as specific expertise in PD, there really isn't anyone. As you well

know, PD is a population that is TOTALLY underserved especially in this area

and I am trying to hire for someone to develop that program. I actually do have

a Speech therapist who is LSVT certified, and a PT candidate who is, as a new

grad, has a strong interest and some additional training. But not a specific

OTR.

That being said, the two best OTs I know in the area are:

Light at our White PONd office- . That would be on the same

side of town as the Wellness center. is extremely creative and persistent

with all things neuro and functional. I love to send her my patients.

The other is Margaret Carl at our Cuyahoga Falls Office . Highly

experienced, also very inventive and persistent. Margaret works with our SLVT

trained speech therapist so Amy may well chime in.

As for here- I plan to be in Columbus May 1, so see you then.....
