Guest guest
Toni, are there brands you like for the l-theanine and the magnesium taurate? We're on a compounded magnesium oxide, but I don't think this form is helping. Some other ADHD/aggression stuff we have heard used are pycnogenol and lithium (supplement not RX)What we are doing daily for these symptoms are GABA, L-theanine, 5htp (low dose), magnesium taurate, Respen-A and then he gets a bunch of other stuff not necessarily related. But melatonin at night is supposed to level off moods during theday I think. The oxytocin should help! We are going to try that with my daughter, I think. I need some ideas for calming supplements for my 6 yr-old son. His pushing and kicking other kids is getting way out of hand, and time-outs aren't working. Today he tried to push an infant out of its mother's arms. He thinks he's playing a game when he pushes and kicks, but it hurts and the other kids never think it's funny. His teacher is getting to the end of her rope with him. Our DAN will give us an rx for oxytocin next week, and we've tried the max dose of GABA, which only helped a little. What else can I give him? We're struggling to get back on the gfcf diet after being off for more than a year, so that's part of the problem. His yeast is not under control yet, either. We're all really stressed over here. Any suggestions? -- Toni------Mind like a steel trap...Rusty and illegal in 37 states.
Guest guest
We're going through the same thing, here. I am definitely seeing a cycle beginning in late November and staying through Spring. My son gets this croupy cough that comes and goes for weeks at a time and he developed this inflamed spot on the bridge of his nose that broke out in "pocs" when the coughing spell finally came to an end once and for all. (followed by "pocs" here and there on his trunk and arms) The spot on his nose was almost completely gone but flared right back up again as soon as the cough started again in November. I'm curious to see if the "pocs" return again when his cough is gone.I meet with my son's dan on the third. I've pretty much made up my mind that no matter what his titers look like, I'm going ahead with a viral protocol -with my nt, too. I agree with the yeast and diet, although the yeast has never really been under control, and we've been off the diet for a year, but these behaviors started (again) around the beginning of school this fall. This all happened the fall of last year too, and then completely went away in the summer, only to start up again this September. We've had recent tests for clostridia and pandas, both negative. We also had recent blood tests for seasonal allergens. Most were negative except for mold, which he has a big delayed immune response to. We've just started allergy drops for mold. Aggression can be caused by clostidia and/or PANDAS. Clostridia can be found thru a urine lab est at Genova Diagnostics and PANDAS can be diagnosed by symtoms www.pandasnetwork.org Yeast and diet may also be the the culprit. Guest guest
I found the magnesium taurate at the Vitamin Shoppe, I think it was only one brand... and L-theanine is patented under Suntheanine, so I believe that any brand comes from the patented item?? I have been using Theanine Serene by Source Naturals for myself. I use Vitamin Shoppe brand L-theanine for my son, but there are chewables. We use 100 mg at a time, some products do not have that much. This is the Magnesium I use: http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/store/en/browse/sku_detail.jsp?id=CV-1206 Toni, are there brands you like for the l-theanine and the magnesium taurate? Guest guest
Rage and Aggression were a large part of our lives for 3 years. He got kicked out of school. Things got a lot worse than I will put in writing. Now, he is laughing and singing and dancing. I had to remove every single supplement and add them back one at a time waiting 4 -5 days in between to see the effects. If I did not find the supplement to be noticeably calming, I did not continue it. After I had the groups of supps that I know are calming, then I added more things, and if they did not cause rage I kept them. This took a few months. Things that CALM my 15 yo 143 lb child: Taurine 4x/day, sometimes more. 3000mg (MOST calming supp we have) Biotin 4x/day, sometimes more. 30mg Candidase 5x/day, sometimes more. 2 pills L-Glutamine 4x/day, often more, on an EMPTY stomach. 2000mg Adrenal Cortex with food 3x/day. 66mg with plans to increase every week until we reach up to 250mg. Digestive Enzymes with food, every time he eats. Enemas for constipation. Daily use for 5 days at first. Then down to once a week. Now hardly ever. Sounds very invasive, surprisingly helpful. The first time I gave one I became injured. After that he allowed them - he KNOWS they make him feel better. Senna 3x/day. 2 pills Increased oil in the diet. REMOVAL OF: Gaba - causes rage. There is a good article on this and I will try to find it and post it. About 1/2 the kids do well on Gaba, the rest do horribly. Do not assume that this is calming for your child. Virastop - causes irritability. Magnesium Citrate - causes rage. The constipation was so bad that this was making things worse, not better. Miralax - causes aggression. Vitamin C - causes rage * Vitamin E - causes rage * Vitamin D - causes rage * * My boy CAN take C, E, D in his LIQUID MULTI vitamin but he cannot tolerate the capsules. I have learned this week that the C CAPSULE is corn based, even though the bottle states " no added corn " . Likely the D and E are also. I am waiting for another response from the manufacturer. In the meantime, I have doubled his liquid vitamins and am giving them 4x/day. This triples the amount he was getting previously, and he remains calm. NOTE, for my child: Head Banging = Constipation. Note: We are also on AC chelation. We completed round 8. After 13 years of biomed this is the BEST thing we have done. We follow the every 3 hours by the clock rule every other weekend. It is bringing my child back to me. Previously I tried DAN approach to chelation - it made him MUCH worse. It seemed to help in the beginning but then the rage and aggression began. Behavior completely deteriorated, scripting became much worse, bad story continues... I do NOT recommend it. Deb > > I need some ideas for calming supplements for my 6 yr-old son. Guest guest
One of the best interventions we did w/ our daughter was simple lithium (elemental not pharmaceutical) drops. New beginnings sells them and they are wonderful. Lithium used to be an abundant mineral in our water supply and helps you feel good naturally. Now they strip all the good stuff out and put in garbage like flouride and we all feel like sh*t. I highly recommend that route first. With the drops you can start w/ 1 drop and work up to 25 or as high as your child needs. Eventually I just switched to capsules (more bang for the buck) but started with the drops. It really helped w/ my daughters aggression and transitioning. Good luck! > >> > >> I need some ideas for calming supplements for my 6 yr-old son. Guest guest
There is a case reported who was so aggressive that he broke his father's jaw. Three mental hospitals turned him out becausethey couldn't manage him. At last he was calmed down with B6 at something like over 1200 mg in divided dose daily.Other relaxants are magnesium, GABA.--------Ratan Singh, Phone: 91 141 2652561, mail: ratanpsych@...- Certificate in Food & Nutrition; Diploma in Nutrition and Health Education; Life Member, Nutrition Soc. of India; Member ISOM- Author of "Nutrition & Supplements in Major Mental Illnesses";.- M.A. (Psychol), Postgraduate Diploma in Medical & Social Psychology, Ph.D.;- Certified Behavior Therapist (from late Prof. J. Guest guest
Nizoral (and even generic ketaconazole) made my son borderline psychotic. When we took him off it within days he was back to normal. Maybe try a different antifungal and see if the Nizoral is the issue. Kerrie The only med he's on is nizoral right now. I increased his probiotic by 1/4 recently and his behavior seemed to get worse so I dropped it back down several days ago, but the behavior hasn't eased--if anything, it's gotten more intense, so I don't know if the probiotic had anything to do with it. I'm really confused as to why this is happening. Could an allergic reaction to mold cause sensory aggression? His recent Iga test showed a huge delayed immune response to mold. Eventually I just switched to capsules (more bang for the buck) but started with the drops. It really helped w/ my daughters aggression and transitioning.
