Guest guest
Ohh, Im sorry spinal taps are the worst! The lying on your back for 24 hours after is pretty bad too. I have heard the headaches that sometimes accompanies the spinal taps are horribly painful. On the plus side, I have also heard that doing the blood patch takes the pain away very quickly. As for the MRI, its always good to have a baseline for where your lesions are and their size. Ultimately the doctor should know what's best. But, I would definitely bring it up. Good luck! Guest guest
Sorry to learn of the terrible headaches from the lumbar puncture. I had a similar experience. Initially I didn't feel bad after the procedure and overdid activities too soon. I was incapacitated for the next 2-3 days with horrible migraine headaches. If you don't feel relief from the headaches then you should go in for a blood patch procedure. You can request an MRI for the lower spine. The physician may not think it's necessary unless you are having neurological symptoms that may arise from the lumbar region (such as numbness in lower extremities, incontinence, and so on). Remember that we are here to support you! --Mr. Dana F. Utz utzdana@... -------------- Original message -------------- Ohh, Im sorry spinal taps are the worst! Guest guest
Sorry about the headaches! In Sweden caffeine (like drink a lot of coffee etc) is recommended to reduce the risk of post-LP headaches. And really heavy ones are treated with a caffeine IV at the hospital. That's supposed to take the headache away pretty much immediately. But since it's been quite a few days since your LP I'm not sure how effective caffeine would be, I'm not sure how it works. If it doesn't resolve you definitely should go for that blood patch. But, i suppose, in the meantime drinking a cup of coffee or two couldn't hurt...love/Reb>> Hi all,> > I am in the process of being checked out to see if I have multiple> sclerosis and I had an LP on Friday. Guest guest
, I am so sorry you are having such a bad spinal headache. I had an LP not too long ago and I too ended up with a horrendous headache, backache, nausea. It lasted about 3 days. I chose not to do the blood patch -- but in retrospect should have! -- believe it or not - I felt way to bad to even go in to the dr to get it done! Here is what helped me most though. Lay flat as much as possible. Drink lots of fluids. If you can tolerate caffeine - drink it This really helped me (I know, drink lots of coffee then lay down, hee hee). I know it is miserable, but it WILL pass. And if it doesn't get better, then get that blood patch. Guest guest
My lumber puncture went very well--thankfully! I feel so bad for anyone who has a bad LP. Should I ask them to do the MRI of my lumbar spIne too? Not that they will listen! I cannot do anything, even write too many emails, let alone work. I could talk on the phone but I am not up to it. But need advice. Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile. Try it now.
Guest guest
claire do not be suprised if you test come back negative because mine did and i have 12 lesions. i still havent been dx yet and its been six years. they told me i may be in remission thats why the tests come out negative. so good luck to you. i had the same test lucky for me i didnt get the headache. xoxodeb complications from lumbar puncture Hi all, I am in the process of being checked out to see if I have multiple sclerosis and I had an LP on Friday. It all seemed to go fine, but the mild post headache turned into a major unbearable headache on Monday and I had to return to see the doctor who ordered the test. She thinks I may have overdone it afterwards and aggravated things. She gave me a shot of a muscle relaxer and wwhat I now realize is a very mild dosage of Percocet = 3 day supply. I am to call her if I do not get better and to lie flat except for going to the bathroom. She said that if it doesn't resolve, I may have a cerebral spinal fluid leak and need a "blood patch". Well, it does not seem to be resolving, although I no longer have the absolutely splitting headache I had on Monday, it is still pretty bad when the pain meds run out of my system. I also have a low backache and stomach ache. I have an MRI of the thoracic spine scheduled for Saturday and a couple visual tests scheduled too all towards ascertaining if I have MS. The brain MRI revealed 4 lesions on my brain, but they were not all in the place that would be expected for MS. I understand tho, that 4 is a pretty significant amount. Should I ask them to do the MRI of my lumbar spIne too? Not that they will listen! I cannot do anything, even write too many emails, let alone work. I could talk on the phone but I am not up to it. Guest guest
I understand the pain you are in, I thought they had done something wrong when they did my LP too. I was in bed for 2 weeks. Not straight but I was in bed for more then I was out. I was also afraid of a "leak" but after 2 weeks and my final DX I was back on my feet. (sort of) I hope you feel better soon and lay down as much as possible it will pass. I found that IBprofan was the only thing that took the edge off for me.
