We were told it was a compliance issue – patients should have choice in the

selection of vendor and if you provide your own, it looks like you are funneling

business inappropriately – that’s how our hospital defines it.

Is there a prohibition against hospitals providing and billing for DME? I

have reviewed the information from APTA and it appears possible to do this,

but in places I have practiced, it has not been done. I understand that you

do need a DME license. It looks like a mess to keep track of and meet the

requirements, but is there another reason or proscription that I am not

understanding? Thanks.
