Guest guest
Dear and Everyone, I'm so sorry your husband is bound to the Acu Check when better meters are available. I understand insurance constraints because I had to wait for about a month for my meter and my BG was over 400 when I left the hospital where I'd been getting insulin. I started taking oral medication, but I worried so much because I live by myself and had no way of testing to see if the oral medication was working. After my scare last summer and starting on Lantis, I've improved my diet and testing habits though I don't test often because my finger tips get too sore and turn all kinds of ugly purple. When we talked about finger sticking a month or so ago, I don't remember the discussion including comments about being able to test in other locations. I was crushed when I was told finger tips were the only places I could get reliable readings. Harpers strum with the sides of the fingertips. I noticed the following line in the Prodigy ad. The unit offers you the option to test with blood from your palms, forearms, upper-arms, thighs and calves, which have fewer nerve endings than your fingertips. Has testing changed so much? Could this be possible? I'm afraid to get my hopes up, so rather than run for my tuner and harp cleaning supplies, I need to check with all of you first. Has anyone gotten reliable results from places other than their finger tips? Avidly awaiting your answers. Always with love, Lissi Re: advocate meter Hi Lissi, you mentioned the Accuchek meter. They are still actively pushing the Accuchek Compact Plus here in Canada. I've seen lots of commercials recently for it, so no fears, I think the supplies will be available for a while. In fact, my husband very grudgingly uses that meter, but only when I'm not home, and needs to know the result. He gets lots of errors with the thing because he isn't a good bleeder, or so our theory goes. I think that meter is lucky it hasn't been thrown out with the garbage on occasion *grin*. But really I'm glad it works for you.
