Hi.

From other PT's I have tlaked with around the country, they say ART is a

technique that has minimal research behind it. I believe that a chiropractor

" invented " . You need to spend a lot of money on the courses. youlease the

equipment (implements), you have to recertify every few years (for more money by

watching a tape etc). and if you want to be listed on their website I was tole

you have to pay money for that too. I am treating a top level soccer player who

was injured by a " graston " practitioner. The athlete is finally getting better.

Actually, there's no equipment used for ART. Graston/Astym/Gua Sha are

totally different.

I perform ART and have not recertified in a few years due to the fees you have

to pay, but I have taken all the courses for Full Body Certification and get

excellent results with all my patients, surgical and non-surgical.

Great technique, but pricey because they are a business. I advice to take all

the courses and one Masters course.

You will see awesome results! Graston is an excellent technique as well but I

like to use my hands to dx proper tissue integrity issues.

Hope this helps.

,

I am confused by your response. Are you confusing ART (Active Release

Technique) with Graston? They are two separate techniques.

Hi Kim,

It seems i was given partially incorrect info on ART. I stand corrected except

for the fees to go through the courses etc. ASTIM and graston etc use

implements.

I don't see any valid research out there. I see a lot of Chiros (Leahy the

founder in particular) trying to branch out into areas with minimal back up

especially with all research out there for effective techniques.......

The official ART website claims that it is “a patented, state of the art soft

tissue system/movement based massage technique.†The mention of a

“state-of-the-art†patent makes it sound special. Patenting a therapy does

not mean that it’s an effective therapy, of course — it simply protects the

patent holder’s right to financially exploit a distinct concept without

competition.

Pin-and-stretch massage has never been specifically studied. It is completely

unknown whether or not it is more or less effective than any other kind of

massage therapy, and the effectiveness of massage therapy itself is generally

unknown. So there is no proof or any evidence at all that ART works, and only

the “idea†of it can be considered.
