Meryl-

We are in the process of implementing Epic, with a " go-live " date in Feb. 2013.

I am on the implementation team for EpicCare Clinical Documentation, and am

responsible for the IP and OP documentation for all rehab therapies. While we

have not implemented our system yet, I think you would be very pleased with the

product. The integration with other disciplines is amazing, and the reporting

capabilities are really exciting. How the system looks depends on the version

you would have (Epic is constantly improving and refining their products), so be

very wary of comments/advice/functionality of other facilities' Epic products.

They could be on an earlier version, or they may have made many modifications

and strayed far from the model system. Easy to do with the rehab therapies.

That being said, the system is very powerful, and like anything else, how well

it works for you depends on the planning, effort, and training you put into it.

If your facility goes with Epic, I would HIGHLY recommend having a therapist

certified as an implementation analyst. When it comes to some front end

decisions, I'd also recommend talking with a facility who is already on the same

version you'll be getting, and get some input. Epic has some great user groups

and webinars.

Epic EMR for Outpatient Rehab

Hi all,

Well, we finally got money in the budget for an EMR. We were happily searching

away and have narrowed down to two very nice outpatient rehab-specific EMRs. My

superiors have thrown a slight monkey wrench into the process and want us to add

two larger, system-wide EMRs into the mix. One of those is Epic.

Does anyone out there have experience with Epic software specifically for the

outpatient rehab setting? How are they with the our specific compliance/Medicare

needs? How about ease of use, customizability? My preference would be to stick

with something manufactured specifically for OP Rehab and interface in to a

larger system, but I'm thinking ahead here.

Any info, thoughts, experience would be appreciated. Thanks!
