Hi Harry and ,

Wow, what a way for you to have discovered your diagnosis. Well, I was given my

lab work results over the phone. I went into the dr.s on Wed. and heard back

from them by Thu., but didn't get them called back till Fri. of last week. They

didn't leave a message, they talked with me live on the phone. Apparently, my

last a1c reading was just under 6, and now it is 9! My average sugars seems to

be in the 200's. I'm awaiting insurance approval for the Janumet, grrr. I'm

sorry you had to find out the way you did as well. Why is it that some

physicians don't have any concept of how their patients are going to feel? They

just get it over with, like they did with my husband. He found out in the dr.s

office at his visit, and they shoved a glucometer in front of him, hurriedly

showed him how to test his sugar with it, then prescribed the Metformen and

poof, they were gone. It was a God's send that I was their with him, and could

comfort him, and explain things all to him, in simpler terms than they did about

the sugar testing, etc.

Take care,

Carla Kay Etheredge

Hi Vicki,

Thank you for the comfort! I sure appreciate it! *smiles* Yes, I'm still in

that shock phase. I'm slowly making some changes in what I eat and drink, and

not trying to throw my system out of wack, lol. Thanks for the understanding

and relating about being a parent, grins. It has its challenges, but it's worth

it. Also, I'll keep the conference in mind. That is for sure, I can certainly

use an escape, smiles.

Hugs,

Carla, that's so awful the way your husband was treated.

Like you I got my results over the phone and then I went in about a week later.

my physician is wonderful. I was determined not to cry, so I was, um well, not

very nice. That lasted all of 5 minutes before I was blubbering. She's awesome

she just hugged me.

But man, your husband dr. must not have gotten the same sensitivity training!

Hi patricia,

thanks for the comfort and support. *smiles* I know it's definately something

that can be controlled. Actually, the medication I'm being put on is Janumet,

not Geneuvia. I think from the way it sounds, they might do a similar thing if

I understand what I've read about the Janumet online? I don't know that the

test you mentioned was done or not, I've never heard of the test the way you

mentioned. I just know an a1c was done, and that gave the average of my sugars

for the past 3 months. No, this is just my gp. I'm going to have to get in

touch with an endocrynologist, find one that is good. In a way, I'd like to

seek advice from a specialist, and get a second opinion on whether this med is

right for me or not. I don't know if this will make a difference, at least this

is what my hubby and I were talking of...I've got psoriatic arthritis and I take

medication that can possibly effect my liver and kidney functions. So far, the

only thing that has been a problemw ith that medication is low hemogloben, and

at the time of my labs being done last week, my liver enzymes were slightly

elevated. Not sure what that was from, but my hubby wondered if the new

diabetic meds would have an effect on my pa? (Psoriatic arthritis) I think I'll

call the dr.s office today and talk with the nurses there, and see if they can

get any info from the dr. about this. Thanks for your support, I do appreciate

it.

Hi shelly,

I'm glad you had a great dr. Yes, I agree his dr. was not so good at it where

sensativity is concerned, mine either for that fact. She didn't even say I

needed to check my sugars, but i've started to. We have a meter here that is

visual, large print and I can read large print. My hubby hasn't been using it,

I try to convince him we should get a talking one for him, but he's

skiddish...so I'm using it for now, and can use it for both of us if need be for

now. I know it'd be easier if we had our own, but it'll work for now. I'm a

partial, and he's total. We work as a team with it, smiles. I've met a couple

's on the Philmore phone system. Wonder if you happen to be one of them,

smiles? If you wanna email off list, feel free!

Thanks for your support.
