Guest guest
I have not heard of SSID; there is Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI); one can apply at the local Social Security office in your area. At the same time, if you and/or your family are low-income, you should also apply for SSI (Supplemental Security Income. SSDI eventually comes with Medicare; SSI comes with whatever form of Medicaid your state offers; for example, here in California, Medicaid is called: "Medi-Cal." Both can be applied for through the Social Security Administration offices. SSDI is what you would get were you forced to retire at that date; only one gets it for disability--same pot, same funds. http://www.ssdisabilityapplication.com/index.html The above link should help to clarify things somewhat. Love to each of you who may well need either one of these programs and/or the state version of each of them. n, aka, "the link lady!" Jobs for MSers......in FLORIDA..... .. What is the best place to look for work for someone with MS? I am a one year diagnosee and I have been on STD for a great many (8) weeks now and, as I do not know that my company will keep me on (can they even do that????) for much longer I am TERRIFIED about not having a job (Am still awaiting SSDI approval!!) Can anyone offer any URLs of places that would hire someone with MS????I live in Hollywood, FL. Guest guest
That brings me to another question? My doc said I could attempt back to work 3 days a week, no more than 4 hr shifts and after two weeks see her then she will decide if I can continue or not. With chronic MS by working will I be pushing this crap harder and go downhill faster? Guest guest
Connie, I find working helps me to take my mind off my symptoms and live like a “regular” person. It is nice to be away from the disease while I work. I work with learning disabled children and when I teaching them--- I am helping someone. I wish I could explain it more eloquently but I like being Mrs. Buran, the teacher, not Mrs. Buran the one with MS. I know that others have more physically limitations that hinder working but for me… it is still the right thing. Guest guest
With something like MS, you really have to know your own limitations. When I was working I knew my limitations, but I ignored it. I pushed myself harder than I should have. It's easy to do when you're a single mother trying to make an honest living. Even then, I knew I'd probably pay the price in the long run, but I was more concerned about how my kids were going to eat, having a roof over their heads, and clothes on their backs. I just didn't see any alternative. I'm still not sure what can be done for a person in that situation. Love and blessings... Guest guest
Thanks Connie, I won't work if it puts me totally disabled, I'm having a hard enough time now with things, but I miss that socializing of the job, I miss most of my customers too, not all of them tho!
