Guest guest
Angelique, My son is the same way. His tonsils are HUGE and it looks like there is a superball stuck in his throat. He's had CT scans and MRI's, been to the ENT and several doc's with no results. No one seems to think this is a problem and if I hear the He will grow out of it line one more time I will scream. He did get better when we went GFCF two years ago, but we still have recurring ear and throat problems every winter, just not enough for the Doc to DO anything. The prevailing thought now seems to be not to take out tonsils/adenoids, although everyone I've ever talked who has had them out has said they had no more problems after removal. My neighbor's little girl (age 4) had her's removed last year and she had NEVER had an ear infection or throat problems. her tonsils just LOOKED big and she snored alot and would wake up at night. Her Mom videotaped the snoring, took it to her Doc and voila! Tonsil/adenoid removal! She does not snore anymore, sleeps all night and has not even had anything more than a cold since. If does not improve on the stricter diet we are going to try, I am going to try the videotape thing. His snoring/waking is getting really bad again. Let me know if you find anything that helps. I really do not like the idea of putting through surgery, but his throat is very swollen. Guest guest
Is she on a dairy-free diet? Removing all dairy from one of my son's diet dramatically reduced the size of his tonsils. He used to heave and ho at night because his tonsils were super enlarged and closed in the middle. But going completely dairy free got completely rid of it. Guest guest
Hi, Angelique! If you are interested in doing really comprehensive allergy testing, you need to find a practitioner who does the endo-dermal testing (this is considered alternative medicine in this country, but mainstream in Europe). Try this website: http://www.startechhealth.com , and look for the partial list of practitioners. Perhaps someone is listed in your area. If not, there is a telephone number you can call (or e-mail them) to get a number for a practitioner in your area. My two PDDNOS children have been seeing an MD in our area (New Haven, CT area) who does the testing. My kids have extensive environmental allergies and loads of food sensitivities. Once the substances that cause reactions are determined, the doctor provides the liquid antigens that are administered sub-lingually (under the tongue). If they have food sensitivities, they must abstain from eating those foods and take the drops. This usually lasts for 3-6 months. My son just finished in a little over 3 months. He is ecstatic to be done as he had a long list of problem foods. He was really pretty good about complying knowing that not complying meant a longer course. The doctor said the environmental allergies would be at least 18 months, and probably longer, but not longer than about 3 years. The drops are not terribly expensive, but the fees for the testing are pretty steep, especially for the first appointment. However, insurance should cover the allergy testing, possibly even the drops if you push hard enough. Depends on your insurance. I can tell just by looking at my son that he is better. Before we started, his face was extremely rashy, as were his upper arms. Now the rash is almost gone. Hopefully, it will be completely gone when he finishes the drops for the environmental allergies. (Like having a fever or having high white cell counts--- the body is trying to " fight something off " ). I think about immunity herbs and anti-viral/anti-bacterials (echinacea, goldenseal, astragalus, garlic, onions, reishi mushrooms, shiitake mushrooms, maitake (sp?) mushrooms) (and many others) An acupunturist could also formulate Chinese herbs for your child specifically. Vitamin C also seems like a good idea. If you want to read some testimonal type stuff you can call 800-HERBDOC and tell them your child has enlarged tonsils and see if they will send you a back issue of their newsletter that deals with this issue in particular. (I don't know if they will or not....) Having tonsils or adenoids removed will result in continued immune impairment -- they have a function in immune system. best wishes, Moria
Guest guest
Does your child have mercury dental fillings? How many? I had tonsilitis every 6 months from the time I got my first filling until I had my tonsils removed at age 21. Coincidence that we went to the dentist every 6 mo. and that I had fillings placed nearly every visit? No. My body was trying desparately to tell us to stop putting the mercury in but I didn't figure that out until 11 yrs. ago. Gargling w/ salt water may help temporarily. Don't let her get any (more?) mercury amalgam fillings. S
