I agree with 's recommendation. I ordered Gretchen's book and read it twice

and it was very helpful.

I also subscribe to a forum where Gretchen has a blog and gives frequent

updates.

Hi Steve,

One positive thing in how your particular case of diabetes was discovered, is

that you probably diagnosed it not long after you got it. many diabetics walk

around with it for years, all the while giving possible future complications a

head start.

Do you have your own blood testing meter? I don't know what insurance you have,

but Medicare will cover most of your diabetic supplies, including a meter and

strips. You don't need to be using your wife's meter. One a lot of in the

states have been using is one called the prodigy Voice. It is totally

accessible by a blind person, and uses only a very small amount of blood.

If you want more information about the meter, just ask. We talk about that

meter a lot on the list.

Hi,

I'm new to the list, new to being diabetic and wanted to introduce myself.

I've been totally blind since March 1994 as a result of a rare form of

limphomia making the lining of my brain swell and damaged the optic nerves.

Cancer free for 13 years now.

I was just diagnosed within the past week or two as having diabetes. I was

having problems we thought were side effects of another medecine but when my

wife realized I was going to the little boys room allot and also dehydrated, she

checked my sugar and it was around 380. She's been diabetic for a few years now

and I'm glad she saw the signs. We went to the doctor and my a1c was 11.

So new to this and looking forward to learning all I can. So far I'm on

metformin once a day, eating better, exercising, and using this to finally give

myself a kick in the rear to lose some weight. Taking it one day at a time

though.
