Guest guest
We have 3 therapists that have taken the Meeks courses and have developed " Standing Tall " classes. This is a small group (usually 6-8 folks), that pay out of pocket for the 6 week-1 hour course. We do a ½ hour education component (what osteoporosis does, how to adapt ADLs etc) and then walks them through the Meeks series of recommended exercises (decompression etc). Even one of the nutritionists comes for one session to talk about diet and supplements. Everyone must have a diagnosis of osteopenia or osteoporosis, have been cleared to take the course by their primary MD, and everyone must be mobile enough to get up and down from the floor for exercises independently. We have been doing this for about two years and it has been a great success. Most patients are very grateful for the education piece especially. We often have a waiting list for the next class. It's not a great money maker but it is a great community outreach. There is a sizable group who wants me to give lectures or a talk as there is lot of misinformation out there. I have heard of Meeks program. Have any of you tried any structured programs for your patients? Any info you could provide would be beneficial as I feel there is a need for it. Thanks.
