Guest guest
Hi , Don't feel bad. I just got my first paycheck, for three days' work, a whopping $57.00 !!! Woo-woo! I'm doing transcription of conference calls though, and I only did one call a day for those days. My next paycheck should be closer to $600, and I hope it keeps going up. The problem I seem to have is that when I first start in the morning, I'm sluggish, then I get good about the time the second cup of coffee kicks in, and stay good for two or three hours. It's like all I have to do is think the word, and it happens on the screen, without my consciously directing my fingers. After that, it's like my brain goes numb, and my shoulders and the backs of my hands stiffen up. I keep typing like a dyslexic, using the backspace key as much as all the others combined. My speed drops WAY off by the end of the day. When I'm good, a four-minute segment takes me 15 to 20 minutes to type, depending on the speakers. When my brain goes numb, the same segment takes me half an hour. A couple of nights, I was up until past 1:00 in order to finish. It was like a form of torture! I'm not doing MT yet, but I'm still lurking and learning, and taking heart from all the encouragement other recent grads get. Thanks, everybody, for continuing to be so positive! Lynn Re: line count ceiling--how do I break it?!! <snip> Rennie da slow poke! This should make you feel like your as fast as lightning. I started with MedQuist yesterday. Today was my first full day transcribing (mush mouths I might add) and I felt great doing 344 lines in the whole entire day <ggg>. I think I made a whole $17.00 today. Go ahead you can laugh, I am. Being the eternal optimist, it can only get better!!!!! Slower poke than Rennie TO REMOVE YOURSELF FROM THIS MAILING LIST send a blank email to nmtc-unsubscribe PLEASE VISIT THE NMTC WEB SITE - http://go.to/nmtc
Guest guest
Lynn, Are you trying to work " straight through " . If this is the case, one needs to take a short walk around the room, or just get up and away from the keyboard for about 5 minutes every hour. Use this time to stretch out those arm and hand muscles. This will help prevent carpal tunnel and, I believe, you will find even this short break will help your productivity. Gai

Guest guest
You are so right, Gai. One of those late nights, I just got up and actually went and took a mini nap, and when I came back, my brain was functioning again! Also, I try to get up and move my arms and shoulders around, walk to the mailbox (half a mile away), etc. Sometimes, though, there just isn't time between calls, so I try to do a little mini-break. It's getting better, but those first couple of weeks were really rough. Lynn Re: Re: line count ceiling--how do I break it?!! Lynn, Are you trying to work " straight through " . Guest guest
Jan..I hear ya..I also work for a national company, and the type of reports, dictators, etc., make all the difference in the world as far as lines go. Top speed for me on ER reports would be 200 lph and that would be with macros used for ROS, physical exam, etc. and that would only be for an hour or so, as I am switched back and forth on several accounts. Most of the time I average as you do, although my company has a higher lph minimum.. I like yours better..
