Do you have a pay differential for per diems?

One of the other hospitals in our area (staffing both acute and acute rehab)

has offered staff a unique option to staff their weekends: Two 12 hour days

(every Saturday and Sunday) with pay for 36 hours and full time benefits. They

did it for both nursing and therapy. I do know that it was very effective in

staffing and the weekday staff were VERY happy. I did hear that recently they

are phasing out this option, I assume because of cost.

our staffing plan is similar to what you described with approx 50% of the staff

on weekends being contingent (they are paid a flat hourly rate).

All other staff are required to work one weekend a month (they take two days

off during the pay period). We have a few full time therapists who volunteer to

work more than one weekend for the extra pay (paid at straight time) or they

forego their days off to receive extra pay.

All PT's and OT's receive a $2.00 an hour weekend diff. PTA's and OTA's are

paid $1.00 diff.

our staffing plan is similar to what you described with approx 50% of the staff

on weekends being contingent (they are paid a flat hourly rate).

All other staff are required to work one weekend a month (they take two days

off during the pay period). We have a few full time therapists who volunteer to

work more than one weekend for the extra pay (paid at straight time) or they

forego their days off to receive extra pay.

All PT's and OT's receive a $2.00 an hour weekend diff. PTA's and OTA's are

paid $1.00 diff.

Carol,

We do have a weekend differential that applies to all therapists who work

weekends, whether they be PRN staff or regular (part-time/full-time) staff. For

the six holidays we recognize we also pay time and a half for all staff who work

on those days no matter their status.
