Guest guest
a, I thought your article was well-written and informative. We are fortunate to be near the school for Deaf and HOH kids which attends...and I'm beginning to realize how fortunate. (Although I knew of one or two families who had relocated to obtain the appropriate education for their child, I don't think I realized how common it is.) Your suggestions for questions to ask of the school seem very complete. One thing that can be daunting, of course, is choosing a communication philosophy for your particular child. In our case, visiting schools was part of our process of discovery. I just thought I'd mention that it could be helpful for some parents to observe classes in action (as you suggest) in order to see how a particular communication method works and not to be too worried if they haven't already made that decision beforehand. Unfortunately, finances and geographical considerations can get in the way of this but sometimes even the local school districts have programs which vary widely in their philosophies and so can provide good information. Very nicely written! Carol - mom to , 5.3, bilateral SN mod to severe/profound HL
