Guest guest
Hi , I also work at a CAH that has a very small PT department. (4 therapists) We cover Saturday's and have CNA's follow through on Sunday on rehab plan of care. We have garden variety post op THA/TKR, CVA's, deconditioning, post op trauma etc. It would be interesting to see some longitudinal studies comparing length of stays for patients that received five day week PT services versus 7 day/weeks services. It would also be neat to see length of stay for total joint replacements in a CAH versus a SNF. I truly wonder if the weekend coverage would show a shorter length of stay. I am guessing the reimbursement model would be the driving force affecting length of stay. We do not see any post-op orthopedic cases, and rarely see any acute care patients that would be adversely affected by PT coverage offered 5 days a week. What are other critical access hospitals doing regarding PT coverage on the weekends? I would love to see some of your policies if you would be willing to share. Thanks!!
