Guest guest
Hi all, Just had to share something that I read on the OSSG list. Apparently there was a woman who went to see Dr.R about having surgery. Dr.R being the fantastic Dr that he is, didn't tell her what she wanted to hear. She had a BMI of 38 with no co-morbidities. Here is an excerp of her email: " I am not going with Dr. Rutledge (Lap Gastric Bypass) as I had originally hoped. He didn't think I was heavy enough to warrant the surgery. He didn't seem very interested in the fact that I was gaining weight while only eating 1000-1200 calories a day and exercising my butt off (I have been told that my problem is absorption, and no matter how little I eat or how much I exercise, I would keep gaining weight until it killed me). Now I am glad he turned me down. I did extensive research on the internet and found out that his method, the " Loop " , is considered highly dangerous and is obsolete save for Dr. Rutledge! It seems that bending the small intestine is not such a good thing! When this method of Gastric Bypass was widely used, people were getting kinks in their intestines and developing gangrene and other horrible complications that led to death if not reversed. Scary, huh? " The reason I'm posting this, I don't want new members who read both lists, to be afraid of Dr.R or his methods. It is her opinion and she has a right to it, but I don't think she has all of her facts straight. Dr. Rutledge is one of the most interested and caring dr.s I've ever had the pleasure to know. I have never ever known him not to be interested in his patients! If Dr.R's surgery were so archaic, then why does he have such a great sucess rate without a lot of complications? Why are we all fighting to go to him rather than dr.s closer to us(if we aren't in the immediate vicinity) or dr.s who use regular lap or open surgery with the other methods? I guess I felt the need to defend an excellent dr who is credit to his profession and who values the whole person, not just the money in their wallet! I got a little miffed when I read what was written! But then again, she couldn't get Dr.R(who has morals)to go along with what she wanted so she felt the need to attack him. Thanks for listening!
