Guest guest
Beth-- I have days when I want ( and eat) more than others. Last night I was craving popcorn (of all things), so I had some, really enjoyed it, and today I was less hungry than usual. You're still basically on liquids, and I think that also makes you want other things to satisfy your need for chewing. Try some type of chunky soup that has soft things in it and chew a little bit. It might help. Also give you a little variety. Katy
Guest guest
Beth S, The day I hit the three week post-op mark I started getting seriously hungry! I don't know what it is about week three, but that's when it seems like we start getting hungry again. Soup was very helpful at that point. It, for some reason, seemed to give more of a full feeling. Hope this is helpful. If the soup doesn't help, you're probably shedding pounds! LOL Wouldn't that be great!?!? 7 weeks post-op
Guest guest
I think the reason soup makes you feel fuller is that it has a little more calories in it, which gives you a more satisfied feeling. I found the 3 week mark showed an increase in appetite too. Katy

Guest guest
Pam - I just love to read your messages... you put things so beautifully! I think I'll print this out and take it with me so every time I get nervous I can read it and calm right down! I too have been able to only think about one thing 24/7. I know I won't sleep much tomorrow night... getting ready for my flight out Friday morning... then Sunday night before the surgery I'm sure I'll be awake ALL night! I called Debbie about my medications (Wellbutrin & Prempro) - that's all I take, she checked with the Dr. R and said they were fine, but I will check with him Sat morning before I take them just to be sure it's ok to take right before surgery. LOL - loved the " bug juice cocktail in a needle " - I was cracking up! You are so funny. Thank you so much for the comforting words and the laughs! > >Reply-To: MiniGastricBypassonelist >To: <MiniGastricBypassonelist> >Subject: Re: Question for Post-ops >Date: Wed, 19 May 1999 15:18:54 -0400 > > > >Pat, > >If there ever was a time when the old adage " Easier said than done " >applies it is right now during the last few days before this life >changing event...having said that let me tell you from personal >experience that you can't get rid of the butterflies but you can get >them to fly in formation..... > >I got about 15 minutes sleep the night before surgery, and obsessed on >it 24/7 the week before. > >Because of the anesthesia they will give you it would be dangerous to >take most medicines the night before surgery....they can stay in your >system and change the reactions of general anesthesia. Guest guest
Pat-- Once you get to surgery, they will give you something that will relax you so completely that you won't care what they do. You'll be fine. I won't be at the Sat meeting (kids' baseball games) but I will definitely see you in the hospital. Glad you're coming. Guest guest
Pat, If there ever was a time when the old adage " Easier said than done " applies it is right now during the last few days before this life changing event...having said that let me tell you from personal experience that you can't get rid of the butterflies but you can get them to fly in formation..... I got about 15 minutes sleep the night before surgery, and obsessed on it 24/7 the week before. Because of the anesthesia they will give you it would be dangerous to take most medicines the night before surgery....they can stay in your system and change the reactions of general anesthesia. By the way, if you take any medicines regularly be sure Dr. R knows that. The anesthesiologist will call you the day before surgery (it may be that night) and get info they will need to determine best anesthesia etc... The stuff they do finally give you is worth the wait! Like Katy said, once they get you to the back and give you their special " bug juice cocktail in a needle) you'll be saying " Calgon, take me away! " and before you can finish the sentence you are only semi-aware and VERY RELAXED! Then, in what seems like no time at all you'll hear Dr. R saying, " Everything went fine....... " At which point all you will be able to think about is going back to sleep....so all that beauty sleep you missed the night before gets made up!!!!! Good luck. Guest guest
Hi Pat, I am one of the ones waiting for the insurance OK. I have had abdominal surgery and the worst thing is the gas that needs to find its way out after surgery. I just thought that knowing the worst would help! They probably will give you something to relax. Just keep the faith and BREATHE! I found that slow breathing really helped me when I had back surgery recently and I just kind of used a vizualization technique to " transport " me too a tropical island and then just thought about that and the nervousness just went away.I think when you are edgy about something you breathe too shallowly and deprive your body of oxygen and bring on a little panic. Just remember to BREATHE! Godspeed and wellness! Guest guest
Paige - Thank you for the excellent advice! I'll do that when I feel nervous. When I get scared I just remind myself that I'm in God's hands and he's always taken good care of me. I also have tremendous faith in Dr. R and I know I have the BEST!!!! I'm so excited!!! I leave in the morning!!!!!!!!!! Guest guest
TO: Pat Culp Best of luck with your surgery. You will do just fine. You said you would be so nervous that you probably wouldn't be able to sleep the night before surgery. Well, if this helps... I was the same way, but I was the type that figured something would happen to keep me from having it!! And yes, I did get a little sleep the night before surgery, but I had worked three (3) 12 1/2 hours days prior to surgery on Monday, so I was really tired and the surgery gave me the rest I needed!!!!! - NC
