Please keep posting about your husbands progress. I have been told I too

need this kind of surgery. The problem is that I am single and the sole

support of my family. How can I be off work for such an extented period of

time? I too am very interested in how others cope.

I had foot surgery that required me to be non-weight bearing for 4

weeks. I found a walker helped me with the stability issue. I was

able to graduate to the crutches after a few weeks. It is more work

to use a walker but it helps tremendously with balance. It also

makes

a great laundry rack & foot rest! I was fortunate to have a soft

cast, from week # 2 on. I wore it for 3.5 months total.

I also found the first week to be pure misery, after that, one tends

to adjust. (Or at least I did.)

Good luck
