Guest guest
> : .......I'm sure that someone said that the centile charts are > based on the weights of English babies in the 1970s. In other words, of no relevance whatsoever to breastfed babies ........ Isn`t it horrendous....having heard from my SIL all the goings-on which used to happen in the 70`s when my nieces* were born: regimented feeding routines, starting on baby rice at a couple of weeks old ...supplementary bottles/water in hosp at night ...How come no one has thought to *question* the research behind centile charts? Why no new ones? Why do we go along with it, or just take evasive action, like avoiding HVs - surely this is not what should be happening to the health of our children? We should be flocking to clinics for reassurance and decent advice not living in fear and trepidation. This is not a rant against HPs - in fact I have had 2 long-term brilliant HVs. But why is the whole system caught up on these old charts? If I used some 30 year old research from the 70`s in an ANT essay, it would appear outdated... (I am Mrs Angry because both those lovely nieces* are now happily preg...but I have no doubt they will face the same 'stuff' that we've all been through.)
