What about the names we've avoided for our children?

My brother couldn't call his daughters Poppy or they would have been

Poppy Dey!

If we'd had a girl, she couldn't be or she would have been

Moor!

Similarly, we wanted DS1 to be Iain Moor, but realised belatedly

that his initials would say I P(ee) Moor (more)! So he was Iain

instead, and was .

Would these also help for your article, ? (that one you're

going to share with us....)

LOL!

I entertained myself for quite a while coming up with names whose initials

spelled something. Walter Wilke (WOW), (NEW), etc

once we picked Calvin, it was narrowed down to COW or CAW or else all the

'useful' suggestions my family came p with for a m,iddle name (Klein,

N'Hobbes, etc). We settled on . Boring, huh?

Dh wanted Verity, I wanted Isobel. We just hoped no-one would

notice the initials...of course the first thing my

dad/uncle/friend all said was 'she must be incredibly clean then,

is she?' Groan...

and Verity Isobel

Doberski is often known as Rob-A-Dob in our family, but

we were careful to ensure that became phine Doberska and

not Olivia (think about it!!!!)

Steeves.

I must admit, I would have baulked at that *but* does Vim still exist?? It

might be one of those things that noone of our children's generation will

have heard of. In a similar vein, a friend's maiden name was Murray, and

she was heartily sick of being called Mint. But who ever talks about Murray

Mints nowadays? And my maiden name was Dixon, so the constant jibe was 'of

Dock Green?', which for you youngsters was a TV show featuring a policeman

of that name.

You need to ask (Dick) on this one. I know a rejected girl's name

was Ophelia.

We have a Jo King at work, curiously she does not call herself Joanne.

The girls have a toy Canary called

Barbara

that reminds me...I originally wanted Hope for a girl, but

thought Hope would lead to 'Hope for More' esp as the

English accent pronounces as 'More'

nee Lucas aka Lucozade which traumatised me greatly

as a small and sensitive little person!

that's what we decided! Believe it or not...when we decided

(after the 20 week scan showing she was 95% likely to be a girl)

on the name, we went roung Safeways, Sainsburys and Tesco in

Aylesbury scouring <groan> the shelves looking for Vim on sale

but none was to be found!

ps - have used the Teetha powders (chamomilla) today to good

effect, thanks for all the suggestions everyone.

Used to childmind a little girl whose initials were ELFS. Her mum thought it

was a lovely idea to give her these initials. To make it worse, she had big

ears and nose, and wore a sunhat with a knot tied in the end of it.

* My friend has a daughter called a Heath.

Lesley M said....Very subtle! Probably a child of keen gardeners.

* Reluctant gardeners more like!! They knew the connotations, though, and

as they were living in Iran when she was born she also has a very exotic

Iranian name. She recently married and decided *not* to double barrel her

surname with the groom's, who is called Rowe!!

* Lesley R
