Guest guest
She does not need water if you are 100% breastfeeding. The babies who got formulas needed water. If you give her water you could lead into starving her because she will be getting fluid without the calories and nutrition that she is needing...her tummy would be filled with water..even a small amount makes a difference...and to the extend that you are substituting water..your breasts will not make the milk that the water takes the place of. Tell your husband that his mother was absolutely correct about babies needing water when they were given a bottle. And that if a doctor told her to give her baby water he was assuming that she was giving a bottle. But that nursing babies don't need it. If he is religious at all you can explain that the Lord made nursing a perfect food for the baby and that bottles were only invented to save the lives of babies whose mothers had died. How would he give water to a new baby without the bottle? It is extremely difficult. Now...a logical man could understand this even without the religious referrences. But...don't critize his mother...just understand that she is CORRECT for the advise given in her time when probably most of the babies her doctor saw were given a bottle.
