I skip breakfast because then I need about two snacks before lunch, which I think about all morning. I spend most of the day planning my meals and diving into the kitchen for quick handfuls of M & M's, carrot sticks, chocolate this or that ,chips....Oh, I dread it! I even crave soda...although I actually like water better. I always thought diabetics were especially thirsty, so I assumed I did not have it. Do you all know of any links about DiabetesII? My BMI fluctuates between 42 and 44 and my back, legs, feet and ankles ache....My last appointment said I had high sugar levels (does this mean I'm at risk for something do you think?) ============================================================================ The first thing you need to do is get ahold of your lab results and see *HOW* high your sugars were. The NEW ADA diagnostic criteria for Diabetes is a Fasting Blood Glucose over 126. This is much lower than the old diagnostic level. It needs to be over 126 fasting on two occasions. Find out if yours was. There is no such thing as " borderline diabetes. " Either you don't have it at all, or you are rapidly developing it, or already have it. ANY BG of over 200, even 1 hour after a meal, is cause to think you have diabetes. Lots of Doctors are really lax about diagnosing and treating diabetes aggressively. They sort of figure, " well, as heavy as she is, high Bg is almost to be expected. " Little do they know that a vast majority of obese Type IIs have had an excess of serum insulin for years, which almost invariably leads to terrific hunger and overeating, and chronic weight gain. Not only does your body COMPEL you to eat more, it immediately stores every extra calorie as fat, and hangs tenaciously on to every spare pound when you diet. Most Type IIs do not get diabetes because they are obese; they gain weight because they are genetically predisposed to diabetes, and therefore to uncontrollable weight gain. Get on his case about this--you may have your ticket to WLS in your lab results already and not know it! (Type II and pending approval through Anthem Health) Dills ddills@... Guest guest
Bravo on the explanation!!!!! For years I knew that I would get hungrier if I aate in the mornings than if I didn't, it has not been until my past few years of research that I have learned about the fact that some people over accomadate in insulin production in response to sugars which cause the increase in appetite an hour or so later. You really sound like you know what you are talking about. good luck Kathy
