Guest guest
Trav, good luck with that new job. It sounds like you ought to have a lot of fun with those kids. I did have to chuckle when you said " flag sloot " , as I've NEVER seen it written that way. It's flag s a l u t e . Of all the words that can be misspelled, I've NEVER seen the word salute done wrong, so as the saying goes, " I thought I've seen everything. " Don't worry, not making fun of you by any means, I just get a chuckle when I see misspelled words or wrong words used in a sentence. Maybe I should have been a teacher, though I don't have the patience for it though. Listen, take care and have a WONDERFUL holiday and enjoy those kids all you can. They grow up so fast and anything you can do to make them smile now will pay big dividends for their whole life. Bill Powers
Guest guest
Dear Bill, Sometimes that happens with miss spelled words. The kids are getting use to me now. Though this I've only went to work once because this winter has caught up with me and have lost most of my voice, but it is slowly coming back. This cold has affected my bloodsugar reading especially today I have had to exercise twice today. You have a merry Christmas and a happy new year. Take care, Sincerely Bower RE: Starting my new job Trav, good luck with that new job. It sounds like you ought to have a lot of fun with those kids. Guest guest
, Oh yes, you have found one of the evil forces to diabetes - cold weather will make your blood sugar go up. I walk vigorously every day that I can, which is MOST of the time. We're having unusually cold weather here in " sunny " Southern California, and I notice my BG readings are a little high, but I'm keeping this at bay as much as I can by continuing to do my walks in the brisk weather. I love walking anyway. We diabetics have to really watch temperature changes and be aware of how it plays on blood sugar levels. Oh and for the voice, yeah I'm probably having some kind of allergy reaction to something in the air around here and my voice isn't 100%, which is not helping me get to cut audition CDs to do voiceover work. My voice isn't quite hoarse but a little gruff, and I wish there was a quick cure for it, probably though it's something I'll have to put up with every year at this time, still most annoying. Yours might be a lot worse than mine, at least I can talk though. Take care and have a wonderful holiday. Bill Powers
Guest guest
Hi , If you want the kids to maybe understand your lack of sight, tell them to put their hands over their eyes and ask them what they can see and tell them no peeking. When they say they can't see, tell them that's what it's like for you. I've used this with little kids before and it works a lot of the time. Sometimes it doesn't. Happy Holidays! Guest guest
Hi Bill, Cold weather has nothing to do with the higher blood sugars except we get lazy. Not only that, you call what you got cold? Trade you! Try minus 40 with the wind chill and a foot of snow then you will have a reason to complain about the cold! Anyways, happy holidays! Guest guest
Ruth, Oh I'm not really complaining about our cold weather. It's colder than we're used to, but it's nothing compared to what I put up with when I lived in Baltimore. While I loved Charm City, I hated the cold and the snow there. I was born and raised here in California, and this is where I'm staying from now on. I had heard from several sources that blood sugar will increase when it's cold, decrease when it's hot. And I've found that most of my " lows " are on really hot days, while the cold weather tends to make the BGs higher. I get pretty much the same amount of walking in whether it's winter or summer, because I force myself to take walks even if I have to bundle up. Speaking of walking, I've got to go take one now.see you later. Bill

Guest guest
Dear Ruth, Molly the teacher I'm helping tell them sometimes to tell me what they are doing and that helps a little. Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you. Sincerely Bower RE: Starting my new job Trav, good luck with that new job. It sounds like you ought to have a lot of fun with those kids. Guest guest
, I have the same kind of problem with wanting to eat when I shouldn't. Most of the time I force myself instead of eating, to drink a couple of glasses of clear, COLD water from the filtered dispenser on my refrigerator. That's a lot healthier than eating something I shouldn't be. I don't always do it, but I am trying to be better about it. Another good trick to try, which I have found moderately successful, is to simply brush your teeth. The taste of the toothpaste usually takes away my appetite for eating, and in the process also serves to keep my teeth clean. Bill
