Guest guest
Hi . Oh it is so sad about . Let me just share a little trick I have learned about getting blood. I " m sure you'll get lots of more suggestions. I stick my finger on one of the sides, then I take my thumb and index finger and go right to the first nuckle with them, below where I have stuck the finger. I squeeze the finger quite firmly for about 15 seconds. I have tried a lot of things but after this the blood comes very easily onto the strip, and of course you can find the strip with a finger from your other hand. I have found more accuracy with this techniqui, and the meter reacts more quickly. I'm praying for . Hi all: This is a bit of a story but I'll try to keep it short. You sure don't realize how much help you get from your sighted mate until he isn't home. Last week got medivacked from Kitimat to Vancouver St. paul's hospital. He broke his hip and they put a rod in his leg. Well actually two. One going straight down through the leg and one sideways. It wasn't actually his hip that was broken but the feemer bone just below the hip joint. I just know I didn't spell feemer right, but you know what I mean. Anyways when they were taking test they discovered he has bone cancer and it has spread. I am devostated I have just been crying my eyes out a lot. Anyways the reason I am frustrated is because when I take my blood sugar, I am having a heck of a time getting the drop of blood on the right place on the strip, and I get not enough blood readings. Urg that gets to me. If I wasted two strips, I used to sometimes get to help me put the drop of blood on the right place. I end up smeering it sometimes. Now that I have a limitted amount of strips until I get the acue check, I am loath to waste them. I have four bottles of twenty-five left and can't order more anymore. any suggestions? It is a matter of getting the drop of blood and then putting it right on that stupid spot. I finally got it after wasting three strips this morning. it was eight point two which is pretty good for me in the morning. Any ideas would be appreciated. Any of you who are inclined, please please pray for . Oh God I don't want to lose him. he is going to the cancer clinic on Wednesday, Christmas Eve. Guest guest
Hi , It would be nice if we could physically lend you a hand at this time! Unfortunately we can't. Those of us who are so inclined though, will remember you and in prayer. It won't help you immediately, but one thing to keep in mind is to ask your prescribing doctor to raise the number of daily checks, so your monthly allotment will be higher. Even those of us who have been checking for years, waste strips. It is quite reasonable to ask for more strips than you may technically need per month, since a certain percentage of them will end up wasted. In the mean time, keep practicing, and I think you'll find certain fingers work better than others. If your index finger works pretty good, start the day off with that finger, and then by later in the day, for instance, you can go back to it for a second use. It would also be good if you, as well as other Canadian diabetics, could have the Prodigy Voice and its strips paid for. Those strips use such a small amount of blood compared to other meters, this would be very helpful to you. Hang in there, and keep posting your thoughts and concerns. Guest guest
Hi , How long before the Accuchek comes? As for your husband, I am so sorry to hear that news.. Possibly the broken leg will have turned out to be a good thing. It could be that they caught the cancer fast enough to make the radiation worthwhile and work before there was no hope for the situation. I willsay a prayer for your husband and you and try to think positive in the face of this difficult time. I too know what you mean about it being hard without your spouse. Recently when my husband had his hernia removed, he was in the hospital for a couple of days and I really learned to appreciate exactly all he does for me. Anyways, wishing you and your husband all the best Ruth From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of wendy meuse Sent: Sunday, December 21, 2008 11:14 AM To: blind-diabetics Subject: frustrated.
