She currently has no choice but to have back surgery or soon she will

not be able to walk at all. She lives just outside the city limits, so

she cannot get any reliable transportation. She is currently setting up

an agreement with the hospital and doctors that will be doing her

surgery. The estimated bill is $78,000.00. That doesn't include the

care she will need for her disabled child. That will run another $35,000.

Hi Lyndi

Your friend should ask if the hospital has a charity that will pay for

her surgery and hospital expenses. This might not cover the surgeon,

but if she has no other option then claim bankruptcy under chapter 11.

She should not need a lawyer to file bankruptcy. Most states have

an online service where you can print out all the forms. These

explain what she will need to bring to the hearing. She will need

to have everything well organized.

We are fortunate here in little old Butte MT to have city buses

that have at least 4 wheel chair spots. It goes to the hospital

and each and every doctors office.

There are also two small buses that arrive right at the curb

so you don't have a steep climb. The big buses can kneel

in the front to make it easier to get on.

It is $7 for a 5 mile taxi ride, but less than a dollar for

a round trip on the bus.

There is also a handy-cap bus service for folks on SSDI.

We have an aging census in our state, and especially here

in Butte.

I have noticed during the first week off the month various

vehicles with elderly folks car pooling.

It is very unfortunate that there has been a decrease in

Medicare/Medicaid home care. It's such a shame, because

it is profoundly cheaper than living in a nursing home,

or other type of long term care facility.

I wish her the best of luck, she certainly has her plate

full.
