Guest guest
I worked as a mental health therapist for 30 yrs so I will give my thoughts from both sides of the fence. I think the site in generally good. It seems to provide some information on non-medication treatments. I think it is more of an ad for their services than a site that provides in depth ideas. I think counseling helps chronic pain suffers. It gives you a place to vent your frustrations. However in my experience, it is limited. Support groups I think can a longer way to help develop better coping methods for individuals. This is just my feelings. Hope they give you so help. Gentle hugs, Tami. --- " M. G. Guest guest
-----Tami, I agree and people are in different points in their pain journey. One of my pain doctors required an assessment with his counselor as part of his team, counselor, rehab specialist, physical therapist, etc. Since I have had pain and been treated for years by a pain specialist who was also a pain psychiatrist, had biofeedback, knew a form of cognitive therapy that worked for me, the counselor told me I did not have to come in monthly but I was there if he was needed and just give him a call or note when I came in to let him know how I am doing. I think this is a good thing especially for someone in crisis or just beginning pain management if you need questions answered or alternative therapy. Support groups are good but I do not do well at them as problems are sometimes brought up that I might not have thought of and I have gone to some as it is just a place some go just to gripe and not resources or guidance is offered . I am very solution orientate and even though my condition will not go away, I would like to have the option of tools for coping, resources to assist me and understanding. I do not like getting up, dressing, sitting in a chair that puts pressure on my buttocks, already hurting, and having to pretend I am not but if I could lie on the floor on my side or they had a group of temperpedic with heat and massage and I could lie down and speak to the others on their temperpedics and hollar break and turn over and listen to the others vent but to let them know I am not dissing them That would be a pain group ! This is why this group has been a lifesaver, I believe I have ties here and truly care for the members and moderators and get information that is helpful for my pain journey. I realize that people vent and the members here also understand I vent and there is respect as it is hard to be in pain and smile and be sweetie sweet sometimes.
