Help! Am desperate to walk again and every time I call a Dr.when they hear I

have no insurance either they hang up or just say sorry we cant help you.Cannot

get Medicaid or care so am essentially self pay patient. How can I get a Dr. to

operate on my completely useless knees? Was born with lose joints so now at 59

yrs old they have locked in sideways position only a specialist can fix. Help!

am getting so depressed watching rest of my life go down the drain as an

invalid in constant pain.

Thanks for any help, Chris

Start at a free clinic. I found best info at the Mental Health clinic

believe it or not.

Here in TN, there is a program called Safety Net for those of us in need of

medical care with no insurance. It is nowhere on the internet.

Try 211.org for your area or call 211.

Best advice is don't give up. But you're not likely to find help from a

doctor. You have to go thru a needy free help clinic. I got a quick

appointment and have been Very satisfied with the level of care.

So hang in there.

Great but what is 211? 411 or 911 I know....here in small town FL we only have

small free clinic, no mental health. They have hard time seeing you for major

emergencies but I will try them. Am sooo appalled at drs. looking at my deformed

painful body @ doing nothing for me. How can they take that oath when they

don't live it. All I need is simple surgery but w/o $$$ for them they turn their

heads. Disgusting. Thanks for your help.

Have you asked them for a reason why they won't help you? I know it's probably

a money thing but I was just wondering if they say this surgery is elective and

that's why they won't do it. I had major surgery with no insurance or way to

pay but it was a life threatening condition.

211 is a social service information service. They may be able to direct you to

agencies that can help somehow in some way.

Exactly my point-money is why not doing it but I don't see how this is elective

surgery when my legs are getting more deformed from kneecaps migrating to

outside of my leg making it worse to operate each day. Plus how is losing

ability to walk/stand elective surgery?

I am no longer whole not to mention constant pain-thats not elective! But what

do you do when they just wont talk to you? Is it against law or medical practice

to turn me away? Can I report them? Wouldn't help cuz I wouldn't want a pissed

off dr.operating on me. Geez. 211 felt sorry for me said had other calls like me

but nothing could suggest for answer:((

thanks Jenette

I know it's terrible but have you tried applying for local county disability?

People don't know that you can apply for this and most people get approved. I

think you would, then you would have Medicaid.

Of course it does depend on having a qualifying income. I would still apply for

it regardless.

It is sad that disability in the us takes about 2 or more years to get when

you're disabled. There is also a 2 year wait til medicare starts.

It only takes a month or two to get a determination if you go to your local

" welfare " county office and apply for local disability.  This is not a federal

program.  If you are approved you will immediately receive medicaid.
