Guest guest
If you've found Lyrica causes you pain certainly talk to your doctor about weaning off of it. This is one medication that you can't just quit taking all at once. There's plenty of causes for the symptoms of neuropathy, I've learned through reading, trying to figure out what the heck is wrong with me. Doctors don't seem to get it, yes I have fibromyalgia, but I know the difference between the pain from that and something different. Have you been diagnosed with fibromyalgia? It's hard to be patient for that matter it's hard to be " a " patient. Time seems to march on and I'm suffering without a clear diagnosis or proper pain control that fits the illness. Sure hope you get to the bottom of your pains, better yet, hope they go away. Jennette
Guest guest
Neuropathy can happen to people with fibromyalgia and spine injuries. Probably other ailments too. Gabapentin/Neurontin can treat neuropathy well. I have heard that Lyrica can have an accumulated effect...that is starting with no symptoms but over time can have adverse side effects. I loved lyrica, but wasn't on it long enough for any issues. Hope others chime in to give further explanation. Ellen in TN
Guest guest
No, diabetic neuropathy is only in diabetics, but there are countless different types of neuropathy. Guest guest
RE: Neuropathy I am not going to help you so much but I do not have diabetes and I have neuropathy in my feet. I depend on a low dosage of lyrica to be able to stand the pain If I have a bad dream or something startles me then it will go up to my knees. Three drs. have tested to make sure that it is what it is. Walking is difficult and I use the electric cart but I had my second back surgery so it has become worse. I had my surgery in Oct. and I have lots of pain still but I can walk in the house with a walker. I wish you the best of luck and help with your problems. As for me I have decided to learn as many coping mechanisms as possible and enjoy the family and grandchildren especially. Guest guest
I've been taking Lyrica since it first came out, and Neurontim before that. If I miss two doses, which I have had to occasionally while waiting for payday, I have a recurrence of nerve pain down both sides, from my spine. I get a blood test twice a year, so I am hoping that catches any damage it may cause. So, I am interested in any side affects you guys may be having from long term use. Guest guest
Hi, I have found out almost all drugs for pain can have a rebound effect. http://www.bayareapainmedical.com/wrebound.html As for neuropathy, some docs treat it with drugs that are mostly B vitamins. Any toxins can use up the B vitamins, as well as our diet of sugar can use up the B vitamins, and especially C. The high blood sugar in diabetics can lead to nerve damage. I really am afraid of massive B vitamins by supplements, especially just a few kinds, as all the Bs work together. The type of b 12 in most supplements is not the kind we can readily absorb. I take a 50 mg b supplement twice daily, but I also eat moderate amounts of unprocessed meat, and eggs 3 times a day,and liver once a week. http://www.aegis.com/factshts/network/simple/neurop.html Many of us are around chemicals and toxins daily. Those that were around Agent Orange in Vietnam ended up with Neuropathy/nerve damage. Here where I live I see them spaying fungicides and pesticides. I have to be very careful in my diet to avoid MSG, and regret I drank a diet drink for years. At least I only had one a day, unlike many who have many a day. Needless to say, I gave up the diet drinks about 9 years ago, and my pain reduced. I have fibro, and herniated discs, and arthritis, but my pain level is greatly reduced if my diet is very low carb, plenty of saturated fats,(not vegetable oils), unprocessed meats, and eggs. Very low carb is no sugars, no legumes, no high starch vegetables, no fruit, and no grains, but there are many low carb vegetables you can eat. I take some other basic supplements, cod liver oil, fish liver A, E, B complex, and C, and calcium and magnesium citrate, and gray, moist sea salt for minerals. The high saturated fats of butter, meat, and coconut oil, helps absorption. Doctors have told me I have Fibro, and have seen the other damage I have from tests, but if you look up the greek word for Fibromyalgia, it simple means pain in the muscles. All the diseases the docs say we have are just the greek words for our symptoms. Makes them sound like they have knowledge we don't have. http://www.wnho.net/fibromyalgia_msg_aspartame.htm Hope this helps someone. C. Guest guest
I have neuropathy and nerve damage in my lower back extending to my feet as a result of grade 4 spondylolisthisis. I was on Neurontin for a while when it became ineffective and I was switched to Lyrica. Lyrica is one of those medications that affects everyone differently and it made me lose concentration and memory. My family called it my " zombie " med, so that should tell you more about how it affected me. I also noticed I was " sleep driving " while on this medication (basically I " woke up " while driving one night when my daughter started talking to me). This was the main reason I asked to be taken off until I didnt have to drive any longer. Driving without it was painful with the nerve pain flairs and my shins, ankles and feet cramping. So basically driving is out for me. It and the rest of my medications did decrease the pain, working alongside my spinal cord stimulator. However, Lyrica can have long term effects. I have been off the medication for almost two years and I still have issues with my memory and concentration, granted some of this is because of the chronic pain. It didnt increase my pain but as I said before it affects everyone differently. --- Drastura wrote: > > I've been taking Lyrica since it first came out, and Neurontim before that. Guest guest
No, neuropathy may be associated with diabetic neuropathy, but don't confuse this with other causes of neuropathy, such as trapped nerves, whose path is cut off or detoured by surgical scars. This is the kind of neuropathy I have. If someone pokes me on my left hip, which is below a large surgical scar, I feel a sharp pain in my left shoulder, as if poked in both places. Diabetic Neuropathy usually occurs symmetrically on both sides of the body, like both feet at the same time. > wrote: > Do only the people who have diabetes get this?
