Hi Everyone

This is crazy. If methadone sells for a good price on the street, I am quite

sure that Opana ER and all other narcotics sell even better. Methadone does not

cause euphoria, that's how it was designed.

I'm sticking with my Methadone, thankfully my doctor hasn't said anything about

changing. Methadone is probably the cheapest narcotic available. I wonder if the

manufactures of narcotics like Opana ER are writing big checks to doctors to

prescribe their medications.

last Friday.  Apparently, the powers that be (DEA, FBI etc) have been

letting the doctors know that they " shouldn't " be prescribing Methadone

for so many of their patients.

Personally, I don't think it's any part of the government's business

what medication the doctor prescribes for me.  My pain doctor switched

me to Methadone quite some time ago.  It's not expensive and it works

quite well.

However, it also has a high street value. Sheesh.

The Opana ER is all right, but the Methadone's retail price was $25 and

the Opana ER is $259 per month.  Whether I'm paying some of it, or the

insurance company gets stuck with it - either way that's quite an

unnecessary price difference. All it's going to do is hike my insurance

rates.

I had the same thought, so I asked my doctor if he was getting something

out of the switch. He said " Yeah, less worry about the feds. "

Opana is supposedly one of the medications that doesn't work when used

for illegal intravenous use. But, on the manufacturer's bottle that it

came in, it has warnings not to chew, crush etc. So, obviously someone

could abuse it in dangerous ways.

Methadone is so popular because with a couple of drinks of alcohol it's

supposed to be a good stone. Unfortunately it's one of those meds that

has to be titrated up to the correct dose. Taking too much to soon can

be lethal.

Then again, aspirin, acetaminophen, vitamins, etc. can be lethal when a

person takes them wrong.

I think it's another drug czar tempest in a teapot. Every year they

zero in on some medication and get really carried away with themselves.

Remember how they used to carry on about Oxycontin? The way the DEA

ranted about it, you'd think one pill would wipe out six teenagers.

I had my pharmacist check the price of Oxycontin's equivalent dose, when

my doctor wanted to switch me to Opana ER. The Oxycontin was $148 more

per month than the Opana for the equivalent.

I've only been taking Opana ER for a week. It seems to be doing what

it's supposed to do. I'm getting about the same help as I got from

Methadone, which was about the same as when I was taking Oxycontin. It

is working better than the Avinza did.

My pain issues are multiple, so it would take a stupor inducing dose to

give me genuine pain relief. I'll settle for a slightly lower pain

level and the ability to function as close to normally as I can manage.

Tonight that normal meant I hobbled home from work. Hobbled in the

kitchen and got some supper together. Stood still with gratitude on the

fat squishy mats in front of my cupboards and then worked on the scar

tissue in the arches of my feet for half an hour. Now I'm gonna go wrap

my cold pack around my neck, get my five pillows for my neck in place,

the safety heating pad in place on it's special down pillow for my lower

back, the two pillows to keep my feet raised and try to get some sleep.

Next week I'm going to be wearing my new leg and foot splints to bed.

It'll probably take me fifteen minutes just to get my bed paraphernalia

organized.

Ah yes! Life in the fast lane! lol

Thanks so much for info Lyndi, ha ha you sound like my daily functioning is in

turtle mode due to necessary things to be able to cope i.e. moving around on my

office chair with my knee braces and broken forearm braces just to live.

My pain tolerance would kill normal person too, cost is important no doubt here.

But was worried nothing would work as well as the oxy. just now it doesn't

after almost ten yrs so may need switch.

Hey while am here I am having tons of problems finding a knee specialist.

Specifically kneecap specialist because most knee doctors I have seen won't

attempt to fix my kneecaps which are on complete outside of my leg causing

knock-kneed with toes pointing outward stance. Guess they're severe cause

doctors don't want to attempt surgery. Am in FL which think not many good docs

here.

Any knee people out there with good doc in FL? Really need help so sick of not

walking!! Help please?

Thanks Chris
