Guest guest
Well guys, I should have known things were going way too smoothly.....'s law has caught up with the Greer's with a vengeance.... has not felt well since coming home on Saturday. She said on Sat. & Sunday that she just felt " yucky " (how's that for a medical description of symptoms?). We were hoping it would just take a day or two more for her to get her " land legs " back but alas......Last night was spent with no sleep because was running a temperature, had chills, complaining of back and chest pain, felt like her pulse was racing, etc........we started e-mailing Dr. R about 6:00 p.m. because everything she tried to eat or drink made her nauseous.....so we tried all the Maalox, Tums, Darvon, Zantac routine with little success....I finally gave her some of my Carafate (which coats the stomach) and that seemed to help the nausea...... Anyway, our e-mail quit working about 1:30 a.m. so I couldn't send Dr. R the info....I waited until about 5:30 a.m. and paged him...he talked to me and then to (of course she told him about several symptoms she hadn't mentioned to me....duh! Did I ever feel like a fool) He decided we shouldn't wait for our PCP's office to open; Dr. R called our emergency room, spoke to the Doctor there and left orders of tests he wanted done.....I'm sure he thought this would expedite matters a lot but this is Caldwell Memorial we're talking about here......we could have waited until 8:30 and had all the labs & x-rays done in the office and had the results sooner....it seems the ER Doctor order blood tests, urinalysis etc....but the lab never got the order....it wasn't until after 9:00 that a nurse noticed there were no lab results for yet and then had to recall the order in and order a STAT report........I shouldn't bitch, the Dr.'s office wouldn't have had the gastro-gaffin swallow material anyway, but it certainly wouldn't have wasted a three hour window that didn't do us any good at that point. Anyway, from the time we got to the hospital (6:15 a.m.) until discharge (11:00 a.m.) they ran blood work, urinalysis, chest x-ray, abdominal x-ray......the labs showed a high white count and some other things indicative of a kidney/urinary tract infection...so the ER doctor spoke with Dr. R about possible medicines and came to a consensus....but in the meantime, Dr. R wanted to do another Gastro-Gaffin swallow, just in case, to rule out a leak......Poor , Dr. R's new rule about everyone not having to do the " swallow " hasn't helped her a bit.... RESULTS: Gastro swallow: No leak Chest X-Ray: Touch of Pneumonia Labs: High White count and some other blood abnormalities indicative of kidney infection... Rocephin shot in ER; RX for strong anti-biotic good for both pnuemonia and kidney/urinary tract infections; Tylenol or Ibuprofen for fever.... Recheck with family Dr. in 2-3 days......
