Guest guest
Hi Stardaz, I am glad you found us here. I'd like to hear about what brings you to the chronic pain support group. Pain, probably huh? I'm a long time sufferer due to spine degeneration and fibromyalgia and now my joints are becoming so painful from the osteoarthritis. Guest guest
Hi, I take MS Contin which is extended release morphine and gabapentin which is brand name Gabapentin for nerve pain. I had to go to a pain management doctor, they are usually the only ones qualified to prescribe the opioid pain medications. I'm having new pain in my mid back that isn't getting relieved by the dose of morphine I'm on. We don't know for sure what is causing it, but it could be fractures of the vertebra or some other thing that is compressing on nerves. All I know is that since this started my life has lost a lot of it's " quality " I'm in almost constant pain with spikes that occur when I use my arms during tasks like cooking, dishes and other household and personal care. I like to hang my clothes out to dry in the sun, but that's going to be nearly impossible. You know, I don't have a lot of faith in doctors, they seem to guess at a diagnosis half of the time. Have you found a good pain doctor? Jennette > " siouxmoore wrote: >I have the same kind of pain for the same reasons. Ow! What kind of medicine do you take? Guest guest
Jennette, Im sorry to hear your having so much trouble with your back pain. I can really relate to that myself. I have neck and back pain also. I also see a pain specialist but I have a friend who gets her pain meds from her family Dr. If your having this new issue with your back im surprised your Dr. isnt sending you for some x-rays or something to see whats going on. You mention when you use your arms that the pain is worse,,,something is obviously going on,,,causing nerve pain. I had disc problems with my neck and back after a car accident,,, my neck & back was causing pressure and pain going down my arms and horrible pain in my hands. I could hardly hold anything,,,grocery bags were too much,,,or use my arms to wash my hair,,simple things became very painful to do,,,It really got me depressed,,but over time,,like 1year and a half it finally got better. I hope that the Dr. gives you a test so you can find out whats going on. Sometimes you have to push these Drs. and if he isnt listening,, go someplace else. I wouldnt wait,,,if hes ignoring your symptoms. What state are you in? Im in Illinois. I know a few pain specialists here. I know how pain can affect you emotionally,,try not to let it get you down. I really hope that you get some help with your pain. Best wishes, Cloverskies () >Jennette wrote: > I'm having new pain in my mid back that isn't getting relieved by the dose of morphine I'm on. Guest guest
All, You need to see a Rheumotologist for medication to reduce the swelling and if you search the internet, American Arthritis Society, they recommend a anti inflammatory diet and what not and what to eat. My Doctor put me on it and I take Etodolac, a NSAID (non steroid anit inflammatory drug), info can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Etodolac. I take Neurotin for my fibromylagia as Lyrica side effects are to bad for me. I hope that helps some as the Etodolac and I also have a prescription cream , Voltaren Gel, and it helps. It has an anti inflammatory in it. My previous doctor had a drug store that compounded creams for him with medication in them that help. I also have a home physical therapy program that has stretches that helps with mobility. I also recently found out my Vitamin D was very low and that caused bone and joint swelling that was very painful to me and can cause osteoarthritis. The endocrinologist I saw yesterday was great and said that there was a pandemic of Vitamin D deficiency as people do not get out in the sun anymore and some medication especially anti seizure medication cause deficiencies. I encourage everyone to get your labs done and include a Metabolic Panel and check your Vitamin D, B12, Calcium levels. Hope this helps some. I have Degenerative Disc Disease and a three level spinal fusion and then had an auto wreck that damaged my sacral iliac joint and I have to deal with sacral iliac syndrome along with piriformiis syndrome and sciatica because they are right there together and cause friction on each other when I over exert and they swell up and become inflamed and acrachoidnitis (which really hurts) from the REQUIRED spinal injections I was told I needed with NO REGARD of the consequences of the scarring and inevitable acrachoidnditis it causes in the spine and damage that will be forever! The medication in the spinal injection is not approved by the FDA to be used in spinal injections. I was so stupid and agreed because I was in pain and the Doctor stated he does not give medication without me doing the spinal injections. Hope you relief and hope the info helps. Guest guest
Thanks for the well wishes. I hope that relief is in the future. X-rays don't seem to show much, other than narrowed disc spaces, spurs, compression fractures or stenosis. The doctors are frustrated because there's so much going on and it's a no win situation. Still, ruling out tumors or bone disease makes me feel better about it. I'm so glad your symptoms eased up. With me, it's always more degeneration, more pain. I'm living in the east central part of Indiana, near the OH border. I do have a pain doctor, couldn't function without her help. Thanks much, Jennette
