The school has about a hundred pupils. Good job she's moved now, hate to think Olivia was not unique! This was my fave name for a boy, but there are loads here! 3 in Barney's nursery class alone! Lots of s too, but we only know one Isaac. Perhaps names are more regionalised than we think. Guest guest
Nope from The Fylde - a wierd place where Blackpool and Fleetwood are. But he has very strange pronunciations for all sorts of words like Loddery, Gaaazzz (instead of petrol), domadoes, etc. in a stupid american accent. When he was in Italy I was greeted with Ciao, and prego, and now he is working with a load of Germans its Liebe something, and Guten Morgen. Just call him wierd. Personally I just ignore it (and him). Oh and he used to called service station - cervix station and say tampax two instead of ten past two. I eventually beat that out of him but it has taken 9 years! I don't know 32 going on 4. Sue H. Anneliese Handley wrote: > Is he welsh then Sue? She was finally named on the first morning DH and I were together after her birth (he had been back to work in Holland whilst I was in hospital). Guest guest
I have no doubt that Zachary will eventually become a Zach when at school full-time, which I think will be a shame. We have been waiting for to say Zachary. He has every else's names, including the dog and some of the cats, but used to call Zachary Luke (he calls Luke Luke too!). He has now attempted to say Zachary, but rather sweetly calls him Aree (with the emphasis on the second syllable). Guest guest
> there were so many Ellies. A name that was not common > around here but maybe is in the South? Definately very popular in St Albans - about 3 or 4 in Joe's nursery. There are 4 Sams in DS1's class! He always signs everything 'Sam P' now. The other popular name is / - it does seem to be every other girl's name round here. Came across a 'Sienna' today - thought that was rather cute - despite the fact that her surname is 'Snoxell'. Names we can't use with the surname Pearce... Naomi Isobel Isobel Anne etc etc - because of the initials problem (NIP, RIP, RAP!) Which is why we have S L Pearce and J J Pearce for our son's names. Guest guest
I just had a discussion with Luke, who has recently started calling Zachary Zach - not that Zachary answers to this, much to Luke's disgust. I asked him why he had started calling him this and he said it was because Zach is a " cool " name! Can't work out why Zachary isn't. In fact, about a month ago, I called Zachary by his name and a 10ish year old nearby turned round and said " Zachary? Wow, cool name. " So I must have done something right! Alison p.s. I understand about not wanting to shorten names. I like Zachary, but am not awfully keen on Zach (however it is spelt), and I much prefer to Jake. Steeling myself for the inevitable, though. I thought Zak for a teenage would be pretty cool! but my elder two call him Izzie " for short " - not very often as they know I don't want it shortened yet. Guest guest
We chose Eleanor Grace Louise for a girl. Kept the same choices through three pregnancies and didn't get to use them. Well, I suppose we could have, but I don't think the boys would have thanked us. Alison When we called our DD Eleanor we felt we'd picked an 'unusual' name - didnt know any other children with that one and liked it for being uncommon but not wacky. Had actually chosen Helen but opted for Eleanor as a derivative. Anyway when DH went to register her the Registrar said the previous child registered that day was also an Eleanor Rose! [chose Rose after my very good friend and midwife who delivered her] People were always having trouble spelling it and we had a variety of Congrats cards with Ellena, Elana etc - I used to say you know Eleanor as in Farjeon/Rigby but that didnt always help! Guest guest
We had to avoid every name ending with the 's' sound, as, with a surname beginning with S, you end up with a big hiss in the middle. Guest guest
DD1 is ' as in Eleanor of Aquitaine'. Spooky, I imagined I`d have a blonde daughter & would call her Eleanor, after visiting E of A`s grave at Fontevraud - July 81 (C & D royal wedding week). Hadn`t met DH then (good job he was cool about the name!) We went back 2 yrs ago, sadly it`s turned into a culture centre & has lost all atmosphere. I am fascinated by a woman who was an impt woman in her own right (Aquitaine), married King of France then his arch enemy king of England Henry II, and was mother to kings of England (, ). Also plan to visit the Eleanor Crosses sometime (different Eleanor, wife of ..II? Angi, can you enlighten me!!! ) Barbara Re: Re: Names > We chose Eleanor Grace Louise for a girl. Don't know what this says about me then. DS1 is - never shortened, and I detest people calling him Matt, or Matty. - only consolation is he doesn't reply to these. DS2 even calls himself Joshy, and answers to Josh, Squash, Squashy, Squashable.....etc.

Even my sis, Sara, is shortened to 'Sair' (I've never spelt it only say it to rhyme with Hair'.
