Steve,

Provigel(Mondifel) and Nuvigel both are Nuvigil (Armodafinil) and have it in

there. Nuvigel is known to have more side effects. I take Provigel and no matter

the cost, you have to go through testing for sleep disorder, insurance companies

will deny these for offsetting sleepiness' due to sedation from opiates.

A sleep questionnaire, appointment with sleep specialist, or sleep study is

needed as this is off label use. Tricare requires a yearly re certification and

most people's insurance have a formulary and you need to look on it and see what

the criteria is. So, it is not only the cost but off label use.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modafinil and

http://sleep.emedtv.com/provigil/generic-provigil.html.

It took TEVA (a med company wanting to patent Provigel and in lawsuits for

years) buying Cephalon to do so when it's patent expired.

They still have warnings, only for use in Narcolepsy, Sleep Work Disorder, and

Sleep Apnea. Most Insurance companies will prescribe ADDERAL which is cheaper

and I believe it makes your more

" up and around " and will make you try it first. Provigel provides no up for me

or high as none of my pain meds provide me EUPHORIA. Bennie

I didn't know if anyone in this group took Provigel, guess it was never brought

up. My Doctor switched me Nuvigel, cause of the cost and the 'fight' Insurance,

every 3 months. I mail mine in, my Doctor and I both agreed, that having my

other medication's around would be too many pills.

This Doctor was the only one that suggested I try this medication, in all my

years of taking opiates. It seems to help me, get through the day.

As With BOTH, you have to have sleep apnea, shift work sleep disorder and they

require you to have the sleep testing with a sleep disorder doctor. This

medication are NOT approved to be used to decrease sedation in sleepiness in

sedation from opoids or they would say you take too much opoids. There is not

off topic used approved for this and you might want to try ADDERAl anf er used

to work with a guy who fell asleep while prepping a girl, it was so embarrassing

and a woman had to always be with him. aa yjod

Reply to Bennie's post

Most insurance companies will pay for off-label use if the doctor pushes

for it and shows that they tried any reasonable alternatives. Also, some of us

have sedation unrelated to the opioids.

Hopefully, now that it is generic, the insurance companies will ease up on prior

authorizations.
