Did you have to go to Physical Therapy as well?

Christa,

I am so sorry you are hurting. I went to the Synvisc website and some side

effects are listed that would correlate with what you are sharing but I am not a

Doctor.

Information for Patients

Provide patients with a copy of the Patient Labeling prior to use. Transient

pain, swelling and/or effusion of the injected joint may occur after

intra-articular injection of SYNVISC. In some cases the effusion may be

considerable and can cause pronounced pain; cases where swelling is extensive

should be discussed with the physician. The insert also stated to watch for

blood clots.

My previous pain management Doctor had me place heat on my injection site to

disperse the medication he injected but I don't know is that is allowable with

yours.

I would call you Doctor to make sure it is not something bad and he can assist

you with. I also felt worse for three days after injections and slowly got

better sometimes but I never got an instant relief.

I would not worry about physical therapy, total knee replacement right now but

research it on the internet. I found this forum and people that have had or are

having post here http://bonesmart.org/

It is neat because it has pictures of the surgery, why you would have knee

replacement, a need for second opinion and a " what to expect forum " .

You have come a long way Christa , hang in there and let us know what you find

out. I wish they could take my tail bone out as that has been hurting me forever

and I am tired of it .Bennie

I personally have not had a knee replacement but have had friends who have plus

my dad and father in law had knee replacements. My dad and father in law had

replacement at the point when their knees were really bad. both did well after

the replacement. Everyone I know has had PT after surgery. I have heard that

PT is important to keep the knee from stiffing up and limiting movement. the

important part is practice the exercises that they give you in PT.

It sounds like your ankle is the present treatment. I would assume that they

will have you do the PT for your ankle. I don't know who long before they can

schedule your knee surgery, so it may not even interfere with your ankle PT.

I did 3 weeks of PT 2x/week after I badly sprained my ankle/foot. (I tripped

over my husband's boots, lost my balance and fell. Only my foot didn't move and

I really twisted my foot and ankle) I was told that ankles can take up to 6

weeks to heal. I did the PT about 3 weeks after the injury. It really helped

and I still do the stretches a couple times a week.

Hope this helps some in answering your question. I am sure there are others who

have experience with surgery.

Gentle hugs, Tami

Sorry I cannot delete extra stuff in the email from here, but I wanted to tell

Christa that I had the Synvasc shots - 3 - and yes they were extremely painful,

but they worked for me. No PT at the time. All was great until I fell two years

later and I thought I totally screwed up the healing, and got a lidocaine shot

in my knee. Took awhile for that to mend after the fall but I am okay again. I

will get the Synvasc shots again when I need them. Hang in there! I used ice at

least five times a day for 25 minutes. Very important!
