Guest guest
Steve, you need another PCP who will refer you to pain management with his blessing. Your doctor has no right to dictate what pain medications you need. That is not his area of expertise, just remember that. He, along with most other PCP's across the nation, just will not, or can not prescribe these opioid medications. Guest guest
He referred me to a pain doctor about two years ago. First appointment was a year an a half ago. PCP was to keep prescribing based on PM recommendations and he did for exactly one year. He got me kicked out of PM office by refusing to prescribe my pain medications and TELLING the PM that he was to do it. Afterwards, Dr. P (PCP) referred me to several pain management offices, but none of them are willing to accept my case. He's willing to refer me to pain management, but none of them want me. Steve, Please for me, contact for me the Cancer Center of America, Phildelphia PA location, and just talk to them, the specialist online, and they could be your one stop place where you would have your neurologist, brain center, Pain Specialist and opioid therapy and have all the current treatment and treat the body holistically. Please for me Couldn't hurt to talk to them and they could refer you maybe to somewhere closer but I just think good about you being in a place that deals with your diagnosis everyday. You guys have reminded me that fighting is worth it. , If you would have done the pain journal, you could have SHOWN him your problems documented and he would have felt bad and may have given you more as most Doctors when you give them written documentation to put in your chart and ask them to address them, they will. Do I have to come and box your ears <laugh out loud!> ? American Pain Foundation Target Pain Journal -Easy to use. www.painfoundation.org/learn/publications/files/TargetNotebook.pdf Steve please call the Cancer Center of America and tell them all this, usually a cancer pain specialist will place you in the hospital to titer you up and what radiation therapist would tell a doctor you cancer doesn't cause you pain. As the article I sent you says cancer causes pain to include neurological. I don't think you are being treated by specialist and even when I left radiation therapy and oncology, usually a pharmacist is given your background and they develop a pain medication program for you that rotates the medication so it will be effective :http://www.healthcentral.com f Cancer Treatment plan of American has a personalized brain pain treatment plan protocol and individualized it to patient during oncology therapy. Oh, Steve, one day these professionals will get theirs and no one can maintain or fight cancer or pain when the feel bad and seem to encounter ever virus or flu that comes along. I think of you daily and offer good thoughts up for you daily. I talk about your family to my husband he says Good Luck to you too. Guest guest
I'm sorry you're hurting and going through so much. What do all these doctors want you to do in going forward? I almost went to Cleveland Clinic's Headache/pain program, which is a couple weeks and uses iv infusion to quickly rid everyone of side effects of rapid withdraw. I didn't go because the botox worked here. Any chance you can get to Michigan to see Dr. Lerner? He takes Medicare, but not Medicaid. Have you tried acupuncture? I do hope you get resolution. If you do get someone to prescribe all the pain meds, what happens when your body adjusts to them and you have to have even more? I pray for you and pray you find a doctor that can get you well. I have been fighting these illnesses over 25 years and it's sad to see all I missed. I hope you can find a way to get as well as possible and live life. God bless, Lori > M wrote: > Afterwards, Dr. P (PCP) referred me to several pain management offices, but none of them are willing to accept my case. He's willing to refer me to pain management, but none of them want me. ALL, This is the MOST important reason for having Pain Journal pages that include functional assessments to have placed in your medical records and when you are dropped or leave a pain management doctor, type a memo to be placed in your medical records. When I did this for the jerk I saw years ago, he tripped over himself getting to my primary care doctor thanking her for referring me and hoping my care continues to assist me in pain (SURE, jerk, you labeled me non compliant in my medical records as I missed two appointments with the approval of his nurse and picked up copy of my meds, The two days One was because my Mother died and the next one was Reserve training. I did a memo for record about my " Non Compliance " and how his staff approved it and I included a copy of my orders and my Mothers death certificate and asked this be placed in my medical records and I checked them and they were when transferred. This is also important, get a copy of your medical records and read them and if you disagree, type a memo, but keep track of names of people you spoke to, dates, times, and your follow ups. Written documentation is best and if you can get a Doctors e-mail, it is best but certified letter on leaving is best. Always have someone call if you miss NO MATTER how ill you are. If you vomit meds up, take a zip lock bag and put the results in a zip lock bag until you can see the doctor. If you cannot see your pain management doctor, make sure the primary care doctor is called to let them know you have nausea, vomiting or are sick. A doctors note you were sick and bring to Pain Management Doctor. I have done this to protect myself. I know some people roll their eyes and state, pain journal, memo for records, etc. but you can bet your Doctor is covering his " practice " and even though you are not a drug seeker, make sure you document anything that would be considered otherwise. Doctors today do not want to be considered a problem. Steve M, you are a complex case, that most PM DON'T see cancer patients and refer them to cancer clinics (hint hint) Please give the http://www.pennmedicine.org/pain/patient/palliative/ which is at Penn Comprehensive Neuroscience Center From the website: Our programs strive to provide cutting-edge care to the patients we serve. In addition, we are educating next-generation health care providers in pain medicine. We also strive to improve care to patients with pain through clinical research. Our goal is simple: Provide the best care we can, teach others how to care for people with pain, and do our part to conduct research to improve care to our future patients. However, we cannot do this alone. Much of our efforts in clinical care, education and research are possible through the support of others. You can be a part of improving pain care. Need an appointment? Request one online 24 hours/day, 7 days/week or call 800-789-PENN (7366) to speak to a referral counselor. Steve, these people deal with comprehensive care for cancer patients with your condition. The pain management doctors you are seeking are pain management doctors that deal with more of orthopedic, arthritic, injury, RSD, fibromylagia and other disorders. Pain Management Doctors have websites and they will have a section that states services provided and if you click that, they list services they provide. Most do not, let me state do not do pain pumps. My pain doctor will do pain pumps in EXTREME conditions and only for certain conditions which does NOT include Cancer. I believe and this is my opinion based on my experience in the cancer treatment field, you would get better care dealing with a cancer center that provides the care your need and it would be under one place. Also, most people chose a medical school, university based program or cancer centered program as they are up on all the cutting edge treatments. I don't know if it is because of travel but most of these facilities have on campus places to stay that you come down day before and stay overnight on treatment days. I have stayed at one of these before and traveled three hours a month for five years to get competent care. I hope you consider this and Medicaid does not require referral or Medicare does not so I would get consultation. Otherwise, I think you will keep getting the same answers you are. If you need help researching because you are not feeling well, I will help you. Bennie
