Hi Butch

Are you taking Oxycodone or Oxycontin? Oxycodone should be quite

inexpensive. Mine costs $25 per month. However, when I was prescribed

Oxycontin, it was almost $400 per month.

I've been having to take all these medications. Where do they grow the massive

amounts of opium plants to make some of this stuff. They can't grow it out in

fields like corn. Does the government or big pharma have huge grow houses. I am

curious by nature and this just really bugs me is all.

Many of " today's' narcotics are made from synthetics produced in labs.

They mimic the opiates.

In my Grandmother's day, she could buy opiates at the corner drug store.

No one saw anything wrong with that. They used it to take the pain

out of the " rheumatiz. " Rheumatism was a catchall phrase for many of the

ailments that now have their own names.

Heck, the " Coke " in Coca Cola originated because that's exactly what was

in it. It's no surprise it was an almost instant hit with the public.

Too bad they changed the formula. <grin>

I was on oxycodone 30mg #180/30days and the cash price was about $500-600, the

90 day supply was a little cheaper per pill and the insurance company paid a

small fraction (about one fifth) of that amount. When I was increased to 12/day,

the price per pill was much better.

Oxycodone is cheap compared to OxyContin, but it is expensive compared to many

generic drugs, including Norco and methadone.

That question about opium is really interesting. I know opium is imported, I

believe from the Middle East, but I don't know if it is done inside of a

greenhouse or outside in a field. I'd love to know the answer, if anyone knows.

The UK company that manufacturers Sativex*, GW Pharma, grows the cannabis in a

secure greenhouse to make the product for the rest of the planet.

Steve M in PA

*Sativex is the only cannabis based medication on the market that is made from

actual cannabis plant material. It is a tincture of a custom breed of cannabis

(with roughly equal amounts of THC and cannabidiol/CBD) that you spray under

your tongue used for pain (including pain related to multiple sclerosis),

nausea, and vomiting. It bypasses the flaws of Marinol (dronabinol), Cesamet

(nabilone, brand only in USA), smoked cannabis, ingested cannabis, and vaporized

cannabis. It includes ALL of the cannabinoids found in cannabis and preserves

the tumor fighting qualities of natural marijuana, unlike dronabinol/Marinol and

Cesamet.

Marinol/dronabinol is fully synthetic THC (the most abundant active

component of cannabis) that is suspended in sesame oil and encapsulated in a

soft gelatin capsule. Marinol and Cesamet lack the calming CBD, which along with

rigid dosing, a slow onset (you can't take a small amount, wait a few minutes,

and take more if needed, like you can with smoked, tincture, or vaporized

cannabis), and extremely unpredictable absorption, causes unpredictable and

extreme variations in effectiveness and side effects, including extremely

intense and unpleasant " highs " . Sorry for going a little off topic with this

paragraph, but I didn't want to mention Sativex and not explain what it is, even

if it is a little on the long side. I

didn't want anyone to end up having to ask me about it. However, if anyone is

interested in more information about Sativex, Marinol, Cesamet, or even

cannabis, don't hesitate to ask, I'll gladly answer any that I can (and I'll

find or tell you how to find any answers that I don't already know)

Oxycodone can be bought in generic form. I pay very little for mine.

In Canada, the government grows medical marijuana in abandoned hard rock

mines in the north. The mines make great hydroponic greenhouses. Since

they are so far underground, the winter's 40 below temperatures can't

reach them and the temperature and lights are easily controlled. We can

also grow our own at home - with permission.

My American pain doctor and I were having a tsk tsk about silly

government rules. When I'm in Canada, I can get/grow marijuana legally

for pain. But, when I'm in the States, I would have to be dropped like

a rock by my American pain doctor, if weed showed up in a pee test.

Even if I got it legally from my Canadian doctor and my American doctor

knew about it. Makes no sense at all.

Oxycodone is generic, Roxicodone (like OxyContin) is brand. The prices that I

referenced were for generic oxycodone. I should have said " compares to many

OTHER generics " .

P.S. I can't wait for the US to catch up with the rest of the world and

legalized medicinal cannabis.

Price quotes:

Methadone 10mg #135 $24.99 RETAIL, insurance paid $10.24

Norco 10/325 #300 $62.03

Both a lot cheaper than oxycodone

I know some people that legal cannabis works very well for. It didn't

do anything for my pain levels. I guess I just have the wrong kind of

pain. All the cannabis made me want to do was brush my teeth over and

over again. Didn't even get the munchies. lol

Oh yeah - one thing the Canadian government has done with the cannabis

it grows, is make it not taste very good. I don't know if that was

originally on purpose, but they haven't changed their hydroponic

formula, so they must want to keep it that way.

Also, FYI, some of the warehouse clubs (Costco, Sam's Club, BJ's, etc), have

pharmacies. I have heard they offer reduced prices on prescriptions. I know

prescription eyeglasses are cheaper in their optical departments. My partner

just got glasses and sunglasses for $300, which is great for the NYC metro area.

Be well,

Jen
