Guest guest
Moderator's note: Guys can have many hormone problems, including thyroid problems. Please see your doctor. ************************* Thank you for posting this, I have same exact symptoms but for almost 2 decades. I had the standard thyroid test and came back normal, I did not know about the t3 and t4 tests. I printed your whole letter and will be taking it to my doctor next time and hopefully may get some of my life back. Question: can guys have hormone problems too? I am lucky that my Doctor does not mind trying new things and his main motive is to try and solve my problem, Great guy. Thanks again and hope you don't mind that I printed you letter and giving to doctor. I'm happy you printed the info off for your doctor, that's why I posted it hoping to help others. The test would be for TSH/freeT4 and freeT3. Read the Dr. Wells website I posted. If I remember correctly, page 3 has a title about the tests and he shows what different test results mean. There are still other tests that can be done once you get the results back on these if it shows anything that is not normal according to the doctors' " normal range " . If tests come back Normal, Normal Normal and you are still feeling symptoms and sick, there is a situation that simply is not showing in the conventional TSH test. I'd just suggest that if you find your T4 higher than your T3, even if they are " within the normal range " you question it as T4 converts to T3 meaning if anything the T3 should be higher than the T4. My conventional doctor didn't want to say he recognized that, or he didn't understand it, who knows, but my naturopathy doctor spotted it immediately. Make your own symptom chart and have your doctor look at it. If he doesn't get another doctor! Thanks for answering . As she said males need to have their hormones checked out too. In fact, once my situation is settled, I'm dragging my husband to the naturopathic doctor by his ears if I have to, to have tests done on him. He finally agreed to go as he has had complaints for years that match some of the symptoms I've had. Realize that you can have similar symptoms but have hyper instead of hypothyroidism. So go with you " gut " feeling about testing. I've heard so many people lately saying that we should not rely entirely on our doctors for answers, but to take the responsibility of caring for ourselves through research etc. After what I've been through in the past 3 years with doctors, I agree wholeheartedly with this concept. If you don't agree with what a doctor says simply as him/why and if you still feel something is wrong or you aren't getting the answers to help your situation you need a new doctor. I've always thought highly of my MD as in the past he has taken very good care of me in some regards, but this hormone issue was the staw that broke the camels back so to speak and it made me realize that because of the controls MD's are under they want as far away from an issue as they can get when they feel they can't do anything for you or their medical body would go after them. So now I'm so grateful for my naturopathic doctor who found I did have a problem not only with hormones but suddenly with my gallbladder and kidneys. She immediately wrote a request to my MD to have an ultrasound done for me ASAP (as of yet naturopathic doctors don't have those privileges and probably never will if the MDs can prevent it.) However, she was able to put me on some natural treatment to support my kidneys and YES THANK YOU THANK YOU, a low does of hormones which immediately stopped the problem I was having. She only did this with care as she had my test results from my MD and she knows my test results which she order, will be back next week and then whatever personalized treatment I need she will provide. This should be interesting on Monday when I see my GP and hand him her professional request which she has told me no other doctors have ever refused to do for her. So, in my situation I feel I need both the conventional doctor and the naturopathic doctor. It's a new health regime for me but so far it's working. Good Luck.
