Guest guest
Hi Joan - I also have an AS 16 y/o son who is 6’2” but weighs only 164lbs. I would say that the amount of zinc and other supps your son needs depends on what he current levels are. Have you done any blood work to see? Sometimes you can do just as much bad if you over supplement things. In general, our kids need zinc because their copper/zinc ratio is out of whack. You can check to see if that is the case for your son by doing simple blood work. Measuring the heavy metals is also important. There is a Tier I and Tier II supplements guide in Dr. Ken Bock’s book “Healing the New Childhood Illnesses” that is a good place to start. But I never want to supplement more than I have to. Have you tried any processing programs on the computer? There are a few that help with processes speed like Fast Forword and Brain Gym. The diet is key for my son as well as avoiding all food colors and high fructose corn syrup. For son kids, MB12 is an important therapy. It all depends on your individual profile. Another thing that helps greatly is increasing the oxygen intake. Regular exercise is a great thing for my son to clear his mind and get his anxiety out. It also helps with his sensory regulation. He works out 2-3 times at our local YMCA with a trainer on both weights and cardio. So many people with AS say that this helps them tremendously. I have a 16 year old son with AS. He is 6' and weighs 210lbs. He is having a terrible time with thought processing in school, he says it sounds like they are talking another language. Always in a perpetual fog. I know alot of this may be from the AS, but he is on yeast aid, cod liver oil, acidophilus, zinc, dmg and trying to maintain gluten-free and milk free diet. Nothing seems to work, although the cod liver oil helps the involuntary movements. Does anyone have a similar situation? How much zinc and cod liver oil should he be taking because of his size? Appreciate any info you can give me. Thanks Joan
