Guest guest
Sympathies to and Tricia who have had rotten days. I've had the sort of afternoon I could do without too. Have a rotten cold, and have just been to an NCT coffee morning (afternoon) and would you believe have been given a hard time about continuing to breast feed a baby with teeth. Now I can put up with in-laws " advising " me that putting her on the bottle now would be a good idea as it would make her sleep all night, but I'm afraid I got quite stroppy about having to justify my feeding choices to someone who works for an organisation that is meant to promote breastfeeding - even if that's not how she chose to feed her own babies. Sorry, just had to get that off my chest - so to speak. Well and Tricia and , I think I'll join you. Considering I am up to my eyes in work at the moment, today was not the best day to spend a whole day (7 b****y hours!) in a small stuffy room doing IT training (for work) that taught me absolutely nothing!!! I was as bored as hell doing stuff from way back because one of the six was brand new to this particular system. I gave up in the end and played by myself! But the day was not wholly wasted - I did sell everyone NCT raffle tickets! Sue S

WRT the health visitor, I am taking her on Friday to be weighed because *I* want to know what she weighs. But I'll not be taking any snash from anyone...she's growing out of clothes, developing wonderfully, full of beaming smiles and has started sleeping from midnight to 6am, so there's definitely no need for anything other than milk for her yet! (snash - good scottish word for cheek/rubbish!)

Have a rotten cold, >and have just been to an NCT coffee morning (afternoon) and would you >believe have been given a hard time about continuing to breast feed a baby >with teeth. I can sympathise. Even women who have breastfed their own babes have asked me why I'm still feeding at 8 m/o (they stopped at 4-5 months), believing that it is the norm to stop after a few months. I frequently get asked " Doesn't it hurt, now he has teeth? " , and " Oh, are you still breastfeeding him - when are you going to stop? " . Drives me up the wall. People are still so misinformed. >Now I can put up with in-laws " advising " me that putting her on the bottle >now would be a good idea as it would make her sleep all night, but I'm >afraid I got quite stroppy about having to justify my feeding choices to >someone who works for an organisation that is meant to promote >breastfeeding - even if that's not how she chose to feed her own babies. Did she get stuck into you about it, or make a comment or two, or what exactly ? Personally, I would consider complaining about her to someone senior within the NCT. Alternatively, you could take her aside next time you see her and enlighten her as to the joys and benefits of extended breastfeeding, and then advise her that her attitude helps no one and is not appropriate given her continuing contact with breastfeeding women (who need support to continue breastfeeding, not stupid attitudes like this). >Sorry, just had to get that off my chest - so to speak. I would be hopping mad ! I'm sure you don't need me to say this, but keep up the breastfeeding for as long as you and your babe want to, and don't allow negative, misinformed people to undermine your confidence and belief in the wonderful thing you're doing for your baby and for yourself.
