Guest guest
Valtrex is a long term therapy. Even for a trial, you really need to do it for at least 6 months and monitor titers throughout because you may need to switch antivirals.Antivirals like Valtrex, Famvir, and Zovirax are very safe. Our former pediatrician that did not believe in biomed *at all* told me it was pretty harmless.I don't have a child your son's age so I'm not sure on the dosage. You might want to call your DAN and ask for an Rx. Keep in mind that you need to also be on an Rx systemic antifungal. But don't start them at the same time. Also, make sure you're monitoring titers so you can see what's going on.Cheryl~http://www.gryffins-tail.blogspot.com~@midian42~ Hello everyone. I am looking for some advice and ideas to help my almost 10 year old son who has been diagnosed PDDNOS. I have 2 younger boys who are developing normally. My water broke/leaked for about 4 days before Nick was born. When I went in to have it checked, the doctors did not see any fluid leaking, so they sent me home. I was induced 4 days later after my regular check up at 39 weeks. I was given antibiotics during labor and had an epideral. Nick had great apgar scores and was an easy baby. He developed normally the first 15 months of his life. He had 2-3 words at that time but lost them. He used signs to communicate with us until he turned 3 and started talking. He was diagnosed with apraxia of speech. He also had delays in fine motor skills...couldn't draw or color (still can't) and is clumsy and akward with floppy muscle tone. He had LOTS of ear infections the first 3 years of his life and took lots of antibiotics. Also had yeast infections in the diaper area and thrush. After vacciantions at 5 months old, he began to have diarreaha for several weeks and after that, never had normal stools. They were always very smelly, yeasty and/or mucousy. Around age 4 Nick started to pull away from us socially. He withdrew into the world we now call autism. He was tested at age 4 for autism and did not qualify...but by age 6 he was tested again and did qualify because he had regressed so much. He has had about 5 years of ABA, OT, and speech therapies but really has not made any progress. We have had him on a GF/CF diet and saw his bowl movements improve. We saw a DAN doctor and had him on lots of supplements, and didn't see much of a change except that the probiotics seemed to help with regulating his bowl movements. We tried chelation with DMSA for almost a year and saw no changes. We also tried the SCD diet to get rid of the yeast problems. We went off the diets and supplements and have not seen any major changes, so we are thinking that those things weren't really helping him all that much. His bowel movements are more normal now most of the time, but he is still not potty trained. He has no idea that he needs to use the bathroom. He is just mentally so unaware of what is going on around him. He is hyperactive and cannot attend to anything or sit still for even 2 minutes at a time. He runs away from us when we are outside and won't stop when we tell him to stop. He puts lots of things in his mouth and chews on everything. He had an MRI and EEG last year and they showed nothing abnormal. He also had a spinal tap to check for infections or abnormalities in the spinal fluid, but they saw nothing wrong there either. One other thing we have noticed with him is a weird, spotted coloring under his skin all up and down his left arm and nowhere else. This coloring changes and is sometimes very distinct and other times barely noticable. No one has been able to tell us what that is or why it looks like that, but when his behaviors are worse, his arm is usally worse. I wonder if it is some kind of infection or virus that pops up.... We have seen Stan's website and video of Ethan before and after Valtrex therapy and wonder if that would help our son. I can't think of anything else to try besides HBOT which we cannot afford. My husband and Iwould like to have Nick try an anti-viral to see if it will help him at all. I feel like we have tried everything else these last 5 years and don't know what to do anymore. The older he gets, the harder he is to take care of. Who do I see to get a prescription to try the antiviral therapy? Is it safe to try Valtrex for 2-3 months? We feel like if it won't hurt him, we really should give it a try. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks! Tammy
